Nest cameras

I am using 3 Google cams and 14 NEST cams (not Dropcams) in my Google Home App. The continuous recording works with the 3 Google cams but all the NEST cams only record when triggered. They do continuous recording in the NEST app but not in the Google app. Is this feature missing in the Google Home app for NEST cams? Do I have to buy 14 new Google cams now to get the continuous recording in the Google Home App? Any advice?

I'm a bit confused by your terminology. You seem to be referring to "3 Google cams" working in the Google Nest app and "14 NEST cams" working in the Google Home app. Or maybe you're referring to "14 NEST cams" that work in the Google Nest app and "3 Google cams" that work in the Google Home app.

Either way, maybe this will help.

Wired 1st gen Google Nest cameras that are installed in the Google Nest app provide continuous 24/7 recording if you have a Nest Aware Plus subscription. This recording history is available in the Google Nest app and on the home.nest.com website, but NOT in the Google Home app or on the home.google.com website.

2nd gen Google Nest Battery Cameras are installed in the Google Home app. Their recording history can be accessed only in the Google Home app. The battery cameras, when running on battery power, are normally in "Idle" mode unless you are viewing them in the Google Home app or on a Nest Hub or on the home.google.com website, or unless they wake up for an event and then record that event.

We've had a battery camera for over 2 years, plugged in with the optional power cable. Because it is plugged in and is powered by household current and NOT by the battery, it records 24/7. It's history is available only in the Google Home app .

Continuous recording is NOT available for the 2nd gen (Google Home app) battery camera unless it is plugged in, and is NOT available for the 2nd gen (Google Home app) battery doorbell even if it is wired to your doorbell transformer, because they are both normally in "Idle" mode because they running on battery power. Continuous recording IS available for the 2nd gen (Google Home app) Google Nest Indoor Camera and for the 2nd gen (Google Home app) Google Nest Doorbell because they are wired. History for all of these 2nd gen cameras and doorbells is available only in the Google Home app.

Google Nest has one foot in the Google Nest app and one foot in the Google Home app.  It is in the midst of a gradual process that will let us test out moving individual 1st gen cameras from the Google Nest app to the "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app, but we would lose much of the functionality that is in the Google Nest app:

I hope this helps. If I guessed wrong, my apologies.

I'm just another Google Nest customer, so I don't have any idea how long Google Nest will keep supporting the Google Nest app. We still use the Google Nest app for all of our 1st gen cameras and doorbells. I keep hoping that they support the Google Nest app until they move Google Nest app functionality into the Google Home app, but I don't know if they will do that. So far, all they've done is to LIST the features in the Google Nest app that are NOT in the Google Home app:

For the 1st gen cameras that they are letting people test out in the "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app, they are providing 24/7 recording.  However, since we have several 1st gen Google Nest cameras and doorbells, I'll be very disappointed if they don't move the remaining features into the Google Home app, but they haven't indicated any plans to do so.

In the Aug 24, 2023 blog post below, they have this statement, with no dates or schedule:

Q: Will Google still support the Nest app?

A: There is no change to the Nest app today. You can continue to use the app as you do now.

Thank you for the quick response. I think I got the answer in your response in the second paragraph. Wired 1st gen Google Nest cameras do not have 24/7 in the Google Home app. The 24/7 recording is important for me. That means I would have to buy 14 new cameras to have the 24/7 recording in the Google Home app.

One follow up question: Will the Nest app continue to exist? If I can keep that app, then I can keep the 24/7 recording.

thanks
