Unable to migrate to Nest to google account

CATRobotics
Community Member

Hello,

I am having trouble migrating my Google Nest account properly. When I select login with Nest account and use my gmail, I am able to access all of my existing cameras and see my thermostat etc. but when I select login with Google (using the same email address) I cannot see any of my devices. Will someone please advise on how I can properly migrate these accounts to streamline this process? We have multiple users accessing and would like to reduce confusion on how to login properly.

Thanks!

Hi CATRobotics,

Thanks for reaching out.

Sorry to hear about what you're experiencing right now with migrating your account. Let's go ahead and check if these settings are met:

If you migrate your Nest Account to a Google Account, your experience of your Nest home and products will change. Migration is optional, and once completed, is not reversible, so it’s important to understand the changes that migration will bring before you start.

Here are some key things that will happen when you migrate:

We recommend that you read all the information in the Important changes when you migrate and Privacy and Terms of Service sections to help decide if migration is right for you at this time.

You can only link one Google Account to one Nest Account.

  1. On your mobile device, download the latest version of the Nest app from Google Play.
  2. Check that you have an eligible Google Account.
    1. If you don’t have one, you will need to create a new Google Account.
  3. Open the Nest app Nest app and, if asked, sign in.
  4. Tap Settings Nest settings icon Account verify that you’re signed in with the account you want to migrate.
    1. To migrate a different Nest Account, tap Sign out at the bottom of the screen sign in with the account you want to migrate.
  5. Tap Migrate to a Google Account.
  6. Follow the in-app instructions.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Princess

Hi - I have not migrated to google and I know this from following your instructions. I'm still able to log in with my nest account, and there it shows I should complete the migration but fails. I'm having troubles because I'd like to subscribe to nest aware but am unable to as far as I can tell. Please help.

Hi folks,

We appreciate you for trying. Let’s sort this out — a few questions: was there an error message that you received? What’s the make and model of your phone? Also, are you using a personal Gmail or a Google Workspace account?

I appreciate your help here, Jake.

Thanks,

JT

The messages I received are “This Google about is already linked with another nest account. Please select another Google Account”.

However, this is incorrect. I noticed when I get this message, in my Google account it does appear that the nest account is linked (I look at 3rd party permissions and sharing settings in my google account). I then deleted this and tried again, same thing happened (about three times). I proceeded to try with my husbands google account - same result. We also deleted and tried again.

I’m currently on an iPhone 14, latest iOS. My husband has an iPhone 13.

Both accounts we attempted to use are personal Google accounts.

Thanks,

Sara

Hey Sara49,

I appreciate your patience here. Thanks for sharing that information. By the looks of it, the email address you're trying to migrate to your Nest account has already been migrated. You can link only one Google Account to one Nest Account. If the Google Account you want to migrate to is already linked with a Nest Account, you have two options. You can either:

Use the Google Account that’s linked to another Nest Account.

  1. Sign into the Nest app with your Nest Account.
  2. Disconnect all your devices.
  3. Sign out of the Nest app.
  4. Select Sign in with Google > sign in with the linked Google Account.
  5. Reconnect your devices.

Or use a new Google Account.

  1. Create a new Google Account.
  2. Migrate your Nest Account to the new Google Account.

It’s not possible to unlink a Google Account and Nest Account that have already been linked to each other.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

JT

No nothing has worked I deleted everything and thought It would still work so I guess I’m going to do a hard reset on the products we have and re install them.
