the caller does not have permission

"Setting up a nest thermostat. I don’t have a Nest account, and apparently don’t need to migrate one, but when I try to agree to the supplemental nest terms, there is an error message that says “the caller does not have permission.” I can’t get past it".

I took this from a previous conversation that has been closed, is there a solution for this.

Thank you in advance for your help

Hi, @scotty47,

Thank you for posting in the community and letting us know that the inconvenience with your account has been resolved. I apologize that your wife's account is experiencing issues. I'm happy to help you find a solution.

To better assist you, please provide the following information:

  • Are the devices under your Google account or your wife's?
  • After completing the migration, were you able to see all the devices?
  • Is your wife's email address associated with an educational institution or workplace?

If you are the owner of the home and the devices are under your account, you can provide full access to your wife. She doesn't need to reset any devices. Just make sure she has a personal Google account. You can refer to this article for instructions: Share a home and devices in the Google Home app.

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Ana

Hello, I’m having the same issue. I’ve logged in with a non-work or organization gmail account. I get the message in Google Home, The caller does not have permission.”. I had this all set up previously. The only thing I’d changed was that I had to do a factory reset on my phone. Since then, I can’t reconnect the Best to my app. Thanks for your help.

The Nest app not the Best app.

Hi Luciaaa,

See my responses below. Troubleshooting steps I've tried are reaching out here and reading other questions and answers.  Thank you.

  • What type of thermostat do you have? Google Nest - Smart Therostate for Home - Programmable Wifi Thermostat.
  • Is your email address associated with an educational institution or workplace? No.
  • Besides the error message, are you receiving any error codes? No
  • Could you please describe the steps you followed to set up the thermostat?
First login to Nest app. Then, go to Home app and try to add device. Scanned the QR code, didn't work. Typed in the code under QR, did not work.

Same issue with a previously working Nest Thermostat. HELP!

Same issue setting up anything Nest.. These have all been factory reset multiple times (Cameras and Thermostats) and I keep getting this stupid "The caller does not have permission" error message.

help please

I finally solved this issue by creating a "personal" Google account separate from any G-Suite or business account.

Ahh XXXX - I have a business account I'm using for personal. I'll try my regular gmail.

That did the trick! Thanks, Fred!

I'm using a gmail account that is not G-Suite or Google Workspace. Still not working.

I have the same issue. 3 months later and no reply?  Did you get a resolution? I'm getting same error right now on 2 different iOS devices

@joebabbo @Couldn’t get it working. We gave up and got an Eero. Easy set up. Works great. Good luck!
