Automatically Resume Video Stream After Doorbell Visitor Announcement

DosePipeSututut

Hello Community,

Seems that there's no way to contact Google Support directly so here goes!

We currently run 3x Google Nest Hubs / Hub Max with a few cameras and the Google Door Bell. All work somewhat pretty good and does the job of monitoring our bub, showing visitors at the door and detecting parcels (bloody great).

One gripe I have is that say we have the video stream running, when someone presses the door bell it will show the door bell camera, and won't resume the video stream.

Ideally it should:

  • Show the door bell video stream (does this now)
  • End the door bell video stream (does this now)
  • Resume the video stream that it was streaming (does NOT do this now)

It's a bit silly that each time the door bell goes off, you need to go back and ask Google to re-stream a camera.

Imagine that you're typing an e-mail, someone e-mails you and it closes your e-mail and deletes your draft and you need to start again. That is what is happening metaphorically with the video stream each time someone rings the doorbell.

Anyhow, hope someone from Google sees this and goes "aha, what a great idea, we'll pop this on the product back log as a high priority item and we'll action it next week".

PS sometimes I wish I listened to my wife and not gone with the Google ecosystem.

Do you know how far down the backlog it is?

Cheers

Hi DosePipeSututut,

Please hang in there — I'll get back to you as soon as I have something to share.

Thanks,

JT

Seems to be a new "feature" now when the Indoor (wired) Nest Cam doesn't detect any movement or sound then the Nest Hub Max sets the status as "Idle" then returns back to the home screen.

That's not a very good feature.

What's the point of that?

I'm tempted to just get rid of all the Google Cameras/Hubs and go to Amazon's Alexa/Echo ecosystem because it works so much more flawlessly.

I think you've misread what I wrote.

Hi there,

Got it, thanks for clarifying that. Right now, the best thing to do is to share your feedback with our team using the Google Home app that I shared in my posts above. As certain features you’re looking for aren’t available in the Nest Hub Max. This will help us improve our products and services and to serve users like you better in the future. We'll leave this topic open for another 24 hours in case there are any follow up questions or comments Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Regards,

JT
