Can't make custom clips with google nest cam battery

P4ND4M0
Community Member

Since making the transition to the Google Home app for newer cameras, the ability to record custom clips has been lost. This was a feature that was very practical and useful in the Nest app, but does not apply to these newer cameras that rely on Google Home instead. Being limited to only the movement clips that are auto-generated in the history makes these cameras nearly worthless as they miss important content in between that you can't make recordings of, even when paying for the monthly subscription to have 24/7 recording.

Moderators, please, for the love of all the tech gods in all the universes, STOP CLOSING THESE THREADS. Please leave this open so that others can add their own information to a SINGLE thread, until a solution is found. This is a feature regression and needs remedied, so please don't close and lock this. The whole point of a discussion thread is to have everything in one place, not to fracture and congest the feed with closed thread after closed thread for the same topic, which has never been resolved.

Hi P4ND4MO,  I'm an end user and I miss that feature as well.  Hopefully with all the new rollouts from Google this is on the list of 'coming soon'.

I sure hope so. I am on the beta version of the Google home app and so far it is purely visual layout differences, no feature changes that I can see so far.

Over a year ago, Google Nest GM/VP Rishi Chandra told us: "we are committed to bringing the experiences and Nest devices you have come to love in the Nest app into the Home app."

It will be profoundly disappointing if the upgraded Google Home app consists of purely visual layout differences and does not bring Nest app functionality and our Nest app cameras and doorbells into the Google Home app.

Thank you for reaching out! You bet, the problem has not been solved so you can go ahead and leave it open to help, thanks. The feature is still missing from newer cameras while being available for older cameras in the Nest app. I would love a fix, and would sure love to keep the thread open until this is resolved.

Hello P4ND4M0,

Rest assured that we'll take note of it — we'll ensure that we'll learn from your experience as we continually improve our products and services.

As Community Specialists, we occasionally do a bit of housekeeping to keep the conversations in our community fresh and relevant. You can create a new thread if you have another question in mind, we're always here for you.

Thanks for the help, Emerson.

Best,

JT

Thank you for reaching out! No need to "do housekeeping" as the problem has not been resolved. It is still fresh and relevant as I, as well as the countless customers with nest battery cams, are still waiting for this missing/ removed feature to be restored. It would be best to leave this open as others are still learning and benefiting from it, as well as actively contributing to it. Closing and locking the thread only stops the flow of information in a centralized fashion and gives the inaccurate impression that the problem has been resolved. That is bad form. As I have mentioned to others who have jumped on the thread in an attempt to lock and close it, I don't blame you personally as you are just doing your job. It is a reflection on the system as a whole being flawed and skewed to have less undesirable content floating out there that reflects poorly on the products. Mind you, I would most certainly open another thread, and another, and another, until the problem was resolved. Please understand our position as customers who are currently in possession of a lackluster and subpar device, due only to the services not being provided. Services that are happily offered by just about every other competitor on the market. I appreciate your assistance, you can go ahead and leave it open until a real resolution is found. Thank you!

All the best,

Chris

The ability to save custom clips, without there being an "event" is critical. My Google Outdoor IQ cams literally helped solve a murder in my neighborhood a few years ago. This was partly thanks to ability of me being able to fairly easily give the police hours and hours of video (and audio).

I recently purchased a few of the Nest Camera (battery) cams to supplement my setup and I'm pretty discouraged by the interface and lack of features.

Hey P4ND4M0,

We appreciate your interest however, we don't have any news to share about the custom clips feature on the Google Home app. Others are using their screen recording app that is pre-installed on their phone to capture the clips they want. I would suggest that you send feedback by following this link. Let me know if you have other questions or concerns, otherwise I’ll be locking this thread after 24 hours.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Bunger78.

Best,
Emerson

Thanks for reaching out! You can go ahead and leave it open since it has not been resolved and is a missing feature, not a feature request. Feedback had also been left already. Thanks!

I just want to chime in and say the way the creating a new clip from anywhere in the 24/7 timeline in the HOME.NEST.COM website is by far the best implementation I have seen. Creating clips, saving them to a library in the app and then being able to send someone a link to view it is complete DREAM design. The person who created all that should be brought in to repeat that EXACTLY the way it is done in the HOME.NEST.COM website. It is perfect!

I agree wholeheartedly! The Nest app was darn near perfect with a strong and reliable network. The wired doorbell really is a dream to use in the Nest app, and the layout and controls for thermostat integration were a breeze to use as well. It was intuitive and had all the controls and options you could want with the service. All in all, either adding the ability to use the nest battery cam in the Nest app, or adding the same features and functions to the google home app that we are now forced to use, are really the only options for this device to be successful.

Thank you for reaching out! We as the consumers have had nothing to contribute because the issue has not been resolved by the maker of the product and service that is failing. We are still experiencing the same problems with the service and are anxiously awaiting a resolution when the engineering team is able to do so. You can go ahead and leave the thread open and active for others to see and learn from until a solution is provided. Thanks!
