Cannot schedule cameras

HalD

I have six Nest Cam Outdoor around the house that were installed a bit over four years ago. For that entire time I have had three of them set up to turn off during the day using the schedule page in the Nest App.

We were away from home for several days last week so I turned the schedule off. I have done this every time we've gone on a trip for the entire time I've owned these cameras.

On return home I tried to access the schedule to turn it back on, again same thing I've done many times. Only this time the schedule panel in the app will not display. I get the spinning circle forever. The cameras are all working just fine, can manually turn on and off, just can't schedule them.

To my knowledge there is no other way to access the schedule, just the app and now that seems to be broken.

Nest app on Google Pixel 4a-5g phone running Android 13 and on Samsung S5e tablet running Android 11 both behave the same way. I've cleared data on the app and deleted/reinstalled it.

I have found a workaround.

Open a browser to home.nest.com and log in to your account. If you do this on a mobile browser, there will be a banner at the top of the page trying to send you to the app. You have to get rid of that as it will block the gear icon when you open an individual camera page. On Chrome for Android, tap the three dots by the website address and turn on the "Desktop Site" option. I assume other browsers have an equivalent. If yours doesn't you may need to access the site from a computer instead of a phone or tablet.

The Nest page should be reloaded and the banner will be gone. Now tap on one of your cameras, tap on the gear and you'll be able to edit all settings including the schedules.

The Settings panel in the app will still show that the schedule is off and the schedule will still not be accessible from the app. But in a quick test it seems to have worked.

I'm having the same problem,  used to be able to access schedule but was away for 4 days,  turned off schedule now I can't get in the schedule function. I read an article on nest community help that directed me to turn off home/away assist as the  article  says  that  you can't  have both on but  that doesn't work to access schedule and now I can't get  into the schedule function to turn it back on.

Exact same thing. All my cameras now just spin when I get select the schedule.

So that's say least three.

If you haven't, I suggest you report it to Google and get a case opened.

Easiest way if you use Twitter is to dm @googlenesthelp

Thanks for the workaround, that works, see HalD, sign in on a browser.  I just spent 2 hours of chat with Google nest support and a ticket has been opened after a bunch of troubleshooting didn't work. Hopefully they will be able to get a fix done for the next update to be done.

I know they've never recommended using home/away with schedule but as long as you understand the limitations it works just fine.

I wondered if they were enforcing this now and tried turning off home/away. No change.

I've contacted Google Nest support. Spent several hours of slow chat before they escalated the case. Waiting for a reply from higher level support.

I may try turning off home/away and letting it sit for a couple of hours, then trying.

One other oddity. When I open the settings panel for a camera, the door 6 showing the current Schedule setting stays blank for a couple of seconds.

Thank you, I had the same problem and your work around was the only one I found that worked!

I received a notice you were looking for an update on this but the subject line was different, doorbell cam. Anyway, I have a ticket open with Google home nest support and haven't heard anything back yet. The issue continues with the nest app but you can use a browser to sign into nest and the schedule function works there, just not in the android app. Hope this helps.

Hi there,

Thank you all for your patience while waiting for an update. While looking into this further, our engineering team has confirmed that the schedule feature in the Nest app is now working as intended. While scheduling is not a current function of the Google Home app, we're always looking for ways to improve and are happy to take your feedback.

If you're still experiencing this issue, please let us know.

Best regards,
Garrett

Hi williamkaper,

I'm afraid this feature is not available in the Google Home app but we hear you. We appreciate users who are keen on sharing their thoughts with us — we'll take this as feedback. Keep an eye on the Google Nest Community page https://goo.gle/2JvnMRy for any updates. Please let me know if you have other questions or concerns as I will be locking this in 24 hours if I won't hear back from you again. Feel free to start a new thread and we'll be happy to help.

Check out this link on how to file feedback.

Thanks,

JT

When will scheduling be added to Google Home? I have a nest battery doorbell via ADT and can only control it through Google Home. Not having a scheduling feature is table stakes and makes me want to rip them out and go back to Ring Doorbell.

Excellent and thank you for this!

The same thing here - the desktop site works, the android app is still broken.

Thank you for posting this.

The camera "Schedule" options is currently broken in the Google Nest app, but not on the home.nest.com website:

I opened a ticket with tthe Google Nest Customer Care Team Monday, hopefully it will be fixed.

I did not have home away activated and my schedule pages are now blank as well after I suspended one camera’s schedule when we had company staying with us for a week. I agree with the sentiment that hopefully google will get this fixed and fixed soon!!

Just adding that I have the exact same issue. Workaround seems to work (although super weird that the Nest web site doesn't seem to work on Desktop Chrome but works fine on a mobile..).
