All right, I'll keep this clean and politically correct, as I unintentionally hurt a few people's feelings last time. This message applies to anyone who has one of the cameras offered by Google and is paying for an active subscription to Nest Aware or Nest Aware Plus.
I stumbled upon an issue, and I hope it’s not just me. If you could check your cameras and give me some feedback, I would appreciate it.
When I view my camera on my phone, it does not record what I am watching, regardless of the time of day. For example, if I see someone stealing my Amazon package after receiving a notification that the driver just dropped it off, I'll check the live camera feed, but it will not record what I witness. This appears to be a significant flaw, especially considering how expensive these cameras are. It is even more frustrating that they have increased the price of the Nest Aware subscription while offering fewer features. Can someone help me understand this?
I don't want to go off on a rant, so I'll stay on point. I’ve attached screenshots of my equipment to show what I’m working with and the extent of my investment. I find it unacceptable that Google is prioritizing profits over the safety of my family and yours at home. It feels like they don’t
care.

I think the problem is that viewing live feed is completely orthogonal to nest cam detecting events. If the cam (wrongly or not) decides there was no event detected then it doesn't matter if you access the live feed or not - nothing will be recorded.
Now, the other way around - if camera decides that event occurred then it will be recorded regardless the feed was accessed or not and I just confirmed that on both 2nd gen indoor (plugged in) and 2nd gen indoor/outdoor (battery).
I actually agree there should be probably a customization option for this to be either able to record everything that was accessed over the live feed OR at least allow to trigger recordings manually but knowing the usual approach of google of knowing everything better and limiting any setup/troubleshooting options to zero I doubt it will ever happen.

If you have a Nest Aware Plus subscription, the camera should record 24/7, but if you have a Nest Aware subscription, the camera only records detected events, and the duration of what it records is rather limited.
