Help! Change WiFi network for Gen 1 Nest Doorbell

Hi all, we've got a Gen1 Nest Doorbell.

Last week I was prompted to transfer the doorbell to the Google Home app. All went fine.

This week we have changed broadband provider, so I need to switch the doorbell to the new network.

I followed Google's instructions and removed the doorbell from my Home account, forcing it to reset. But I have now gone to re-add it, as per the instructions, and in Google Home it says that Gen 1 Nest doorbells need to be added through the Nest app. But if I then go into the Nest app to try and add it, it tells me the doorbell has been transferred to Google Home, and to complete setup through there. And now the Nest app simply redirects to Google Home when I click on it. So, I am stuck in a loop.

Has anyone had/overcome this issue? Can anyone advise?

Thanks!

Are you still on the beta "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app?

The ability to "transfer" 1st gen Nest Hello Doorbells from the Google Nest app to the "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app is pretty new, so perhaps there are glitches when reinstalling them. You could try contacting Support:

1. Go to https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp.
2. Select a category/product family, and type in a brief description of the issue, then click "Next".
3. Click "Other", then click "Next step".
4. Under "Resources", just click "Next step". (Clicking one of the listed links will bring up a Help page page.)
5. Under "Contact options", choose to get a phone call or chat with the team, depending on availability in your country.

We are NOT not using the "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app and have not transferred any of our 1st gen cameras or doorbells because so many Nest app features are still lacking in the Google Home app (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/13038234#zippy=%2Cnest-app-only-features). And recently, customers have been reporting glitches like yours after they "transfer".

Thanks for your reply! Yes I'm on public preview. I contacted support, and after a long process of trying several workarounds, it looks like it is a new glitch created, as you say, by the lack of Nest functionality in the Home preview.

Apparently they are working on it. I simply have to wait for a future feature migration to be able to use the Home app to add a Gen1 camera. So am without doorbell camera for the foreseeable (at least the chime still works)...

Really annoying that people are being prompted to migrate to Home when it doesn't have full functionality and big glitches like this are still possible. I know that's the purpose of being on public preview, but we should at least be able to migrate back until full functionality has been brought into Home.

For now, my advice is do not migrate!
