On this post you mentioned that it's not possible to set up cameras using a Google Workspace (GSuite) account but then said you can link a Google Workspace account to the Nest Family, how do you do that?
05-21-2022 04:15 AM
These are the steps you're looking for:
Link a Google Workspace account to the Google Home app
Note the warning at the top of that article. Some features are simply not supported when using a Google Workspace account.

@David_K so can you link a Google Workspace account to a Google Home set up by a Gmail account or containing a camera?

That's my understanding yes. If you find something doesn't work, I have seen some users suggest creating a normal Google account on your domain (no Gmail associated) and use that for Google Assistant and Google Home instead, keeping everything else on your Google Workspace account.

This is why I tagged the other guy, another expert like you, who didn't know.
Google Assistant now works with Google Workspace accounts
Google Home half works with Google Workspace accounts: you can't invite any other users to a Home setup by a Workspace account and you can't invite a Workspace account to any Home setup by a Gmail account and you can't setup a Camera on a Home setup by a Workspace account
It's an absolute joke, for paid accounts to be restricted in this way, I'm leaving Google because of it.

Totally get your frustration, it's been in a somewhat supported state for some time but more on the non-supported side really. Product Experts are volunteers and don't work for Google, so all I can suggest is you send this feedback directly to Google.

I have sent the feedback to Google, as have countless others.
I'd call it in a somewhat unrestricted state, but mostly restricted. It's not a case of whether it's supported or not, they've literally told me, in the dumbest justification possible, that they put a restriction in place to affect Workspace accounts.
I know the product experts aren't employees, but given the title, they shouldn't readily say things that are incorrect. I appreciate you at least qualified yours with "that's my understanding" even if it wasn't correct (to what I asked).
@Ashepherdson who I was trying to contact, on the post I linked, said
"Saying this no you can't use a g suite account to set up a nest, it has to be from a personal Gmail account, which is free. You can however link a g suite account to the nest family. Since the Gmail account is free I'm curious why you wouldn't want to just create a free account so that you can run your Google home from there?"
They are saying you can't setup a Nest (device) using Workspace account [correct] but suggesting you can invite a Workspace account to a Home containing a Nest device setup under a free Gmail account [incorrect].
Unless they do know a way, in which case I'd like to know, or if there is no way as Google Nest Support has said, I'd like them to know.

Hey Sam, it's a learning curve for all of the product experts , as we are not employees of Google and sometimes things catch us off guard (as in this case). My apologies for the confusion, David is correct in his answer!
05-21-2022 05:46 PM
David's answer is correct?
Q: can you link a Google Workspace account to a Google Home set up by a Gmail account or containing a camera?
A: that's my understanding, yes
How do I do that then? @Ashepherdson

Hi folks,
I appreciate the help @David_K and @Asheperdson. I wanted to check if you still need help with this. If you have other questions and concerns, feel free to let me know.
Thanks,

Hi @SteveT1 ,
What are you thanking them for? Unless you can tell me any differently, I still haven't had my question answered.
My question to David: can you link a Google Workspace account to a Google Home set up by a Gmail account or containing a camera?
David's answer: that's my understanding, yes
Asheperdson's comment: David is correct
How then???

Let me try and clear up the confusion.
Can you link a Google Workspace account to a Google Home set up by a Gmail account or containing a camera?
No, you can't invite a Google Workspace account to be a home member. In the relevant help article, you'll see this note:
You can't invite anyone using a: Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) account
Can you create a home with a Google Workspace account and setup devices?
Yes. First, follow the steps in the help article I linked, then login to the Google Home app. Proceed to setup devices as normal. For some features to work, you'll also need to follow these steps.

David, this whole time I have been asking about Homes containing a camera.
Your initial answer suggested you can setup a camera on a Home account linked to a Workspace account. I see your latest post you've changed my question to "setup devices", I never asked about setting up devices generally, I asked specifically about setting up a camera. Honestly, I don't understand why you and A won't just acknowledge that your initial comments/answers contained inaccuracies.

Let me approach this another way. What are you trying to get towards here? Have you tried to setup a camera using a Google Workspace account and it's not worked?
I'll openly admit I don't use a Google Workspace account with Nest products, nor have I tried to setup a Nest Cam using a Google Workspace account. All I can do is share with you the information I have available, but absolutely seems there was a miscommunication on initial replies trying to get clarity on what it is you're looking to do, so apologies in that respect. Hopefully, my last reply brings clarity on the workspace account being the "home" owner (and trying to setup devices such as a camera) vs being invited to a "home" as a member.
If you're getting towards the fact that you've tried it and it doesn't work, then from Google's perspective, they don't formally support using Google Workspace accounts with Nest products unfortunately.
