There was a crime in front of my house last night. Since it did not register as an "event" there is no way to capture that video so I can send it to the police. This is a must have with cameras. Please change this.

They won't. These cameras are absolutely useless for security, I mean they don't even have a timestamp. Even if you could get the video there would be no time associated with it. Google need to take a long hard look at themselves and decide which route they want to go down as at present they are neither one thing or another.

It really makes no sense. The Nest app did all of the things I needed. Why keep us from using functions that are known to work? Now I have no way to tie the footage I have to the police report and soon it will be completely inaccessible.

It's a sorry state of affairs. If the quality of footage issue isn't bad enough, the list of things Google have cut out since they took over nest is staggering.

Hello everyone,
Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. We hear you and I understand that this feature would be helpful to your end however, we don't have any news to share about applying this feature to the Google Home app. We're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take it as feedback. I'd suggest you send yours with our Send Feedback form to let the Google Engineering team know about your concern. While they won't respond directly back to you, this is the best way to let them know about this. Let us know if you have more concerns or questions.
Best,

I will do that EmersonB but just so you know. Someone set my car on fire. I can see the video footage but have no way to retrieve it for the police. The Nest app did not have that limitation. Quite honestly this is a deal breaker for me and I will have to start purchasing equipment outside of the Google ecosystem. This is very unfortunate as I am a huge Google buyer but I have no choice.

@EmersonB surely you can see by the above case that this feature is vital. Why do Google have no plans to return what we once had? Id love to know the reason why it has been removed.

Hi folks,
As this feature is not yet available, we can't provide any steps that you can do within the Google Home app. Another option that you can do is to use your default video recording app so that you can capture the event while playing it with your Google Home app.

Emerson

Thank you @EmersonB I was able to record the video before I lost it. I did not know I could do that. Very, very much appreciated.
