For the past two months, users of the Nest App have been plagued with live video and video history issues such as constant buffering and freezing during the video feed.

The 5.68.1 update was released on June 14. Did it fix the issue for you? It seems to have fixed mine!

I will check it out.  How did  you even know the update was released?

Saw it in the App Store (iOS).

Hmmmm,  my nest app shows 5.68.0.  When I go to the app store there is no update for the Nest app.  I guess they are rolling it out slowly or something. But like so many things with Google these days it is all a mystery.

I searched for "Nest" in the app store to get this latest version of the Nest app.  But we've been fortunate in that we haven't encountered the buffering and streaming issues that others have reported.  (We're on IOS.)

It is about 3 hours later and I just went to the App Store and now it shows "Update".  So I did the update and it is working fine.  I did in fact run into the problem being talked about so hopefully it has gone away.

Side Question:  On IOS when there us an update for an app newly available why doesn't the app tell you that?   I can't be checking the app store to see if there are updates to the 50+ apps I have on the phone.

There is an option in the App Store settings to have “updates” automatically download but I find it never consistently works.

I suspect Apple has some mechanism to make updates available gradually so their servers aren't overloaded.  I update apps whenever the App Store shows updates pending, but I often notice that some apps show as being updated a few days earlier, even if I ran updates the day before.

Hi S3bryan,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts here in the Google Nest Community.

I'd like to jump in here and check if you're still getting the same issue with video streaming with your Google Nest cameras even after the Nest app is updated. Like our friends here in the community have mentioned, updates may happen or available gradually to every device and it seems to have provided big improvement for them when it comes to video streaming as the thread stated. We could also check more about it by filling out this form. We hope to hear from you very soon.

Also, we are always improving and your feedback and suggestions are really important for us. You can also share your feedback to the team by using this link.

We'd also like to say a huge thanks to Debbieinwv, Ruud, EmptyNester, MplsCustomer and Rubes for your insights.

Thanks for your assistance, Brad.

Best regards,

Ryan

Ryan, while we do appreciate the feedback I must point out your statements are a direct insult to the users of the Nest Now Google Products.  First of all none of the admins on this site are direct employees of Google.  You as you so clearly stated We are not We of Google, You are here to provide words of support, which are not conclusive resolution provided by the manufacutor.  If you were "we" you would not post consistantly to send feedback to Google.  You stated you are we so if that is true then We as the paying users are providing you with feedback.  Google has proven time and time again they do not listen to end users feedback.  The aforementioned bug took two months to fix.  The bug was a buffering issue that us users have stated over and over prevented us from using the app.  Google in the interim has rolled out happy birthday and TIKTOK as something that was important.  Important to whom??? Google that's who.  If you are in fact the we of google then we ask you and your fellow teammates provide to us proof Google cares about this mess they made.  We the users spend our hard earned money to buy  for example a flood light camera that costs $300?? plus fees for the privilege of not being able to download the videos nor view them on our computers.  I am in no way shape of form directing statements to you personally I am merely pointing out statements made that admins on here are We of Google.

Please clarify If in FACT my statements are incorrect.  We want products that we pay for to work as described.  A product marketed as a Nest should in fact work with the nest app.  Or is that bait and switch?

Hi all,

Since the beginning of April I too have experienced a lot of problems with the NEST version 5.68. Paid for a NEST AWARE subscription for 2 months and had nothing but trouble. Very bad, especially  for a security tool!

I just saw the 5.68.1 update and installed it right away. Everything now seems to work as before! Very happy with it, but still full of irritation towards Google how this could happen at such a large company.

I hope this update 5.68.1 rolls out to all iOS users soon and everyone gets some value for money again

Regards,

Ruud

Did you notice? Google never admitted there was a bug in the IOS.  Yet here it is. The latest Nest update, says bug fixes .They always blame the end-user, telling us bad Wi-Fi, bad cellular uninstall the app. Check this check that.  It’s a very arrogant business model. They have always made it to be the end users fault.

Hi S3bryan,  I completely agree with you.  I have noticed for a few years now that tech-support folks (in most companies) don't have any sense of how a product works.  They don't seem to have any trouble-shooting instinct anymore like in the old days.

Just checking in to see how the conversation is going as there's been a lapse in activity on this thread. I appreciate all the feedback y'all have given, but I know that this update is still rolling out. Anyone had their initial issues fixed with this update? If you have any additional feedback, please send it in via the app.

The update made a huge improvement.  It still happens but not nearly as much as before.   Thank you.

I think it is well past the time that we look at this fiasco for what it is.  So here is a small dissertation on what is real and what is Google Koolade.

Google was and still is a data farming company.  Their primary source of revenue is data that we freely fork over.  Don't believe me? buy a smart piece of exercise equipment, Android is running the monitor.  Shall I continue? Look around at the smart devices we all use, Tv's, smart appliances etc and Google Chrome Crap TV..  You don't see Apple appliances you see Google android running them.  Why? Free data..how many times did you exercise, how many times did you open the fridge.  Buy a pixie dixie phone and its a free for all.  OK moving along. Google sees Nest and says holy crap more data for us.  But wait, Google is clueless about hardware (Google design a smoke detector or alarm system? nope they are clueless) but they buy nest anyway.  Somewhere in this disaster they release their own crap and market it under the nest umbrella.  Wait it gets worse, Google battery devices do not charge below freezing temperatures.  Proof is in the link https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/11830989?hl=en

Now Somewhere along the way Google said hey we need our own software, so lets lock out EVERYTHING that works with Nest, Hire a 5 year old to draw in crayon our new app.   Now users come along buy a nest camera, nope its a Google Camera marketed as Nest.  Same cameras? two different apps.  Majority of features from the nest app get tossed.  Where did the web version go?  Ok now comes the self hype. We at Goolge know how to make hoe security hardware!! no you don't your Goolge nest products are an abomination.  Go on Twitter and read all the complaints about Google cameras not working, the battery doorbell is atrocious .  Google responds well chill we will fix it when we fix it.  By the way you need to pay us for your annual service.  Then here comes the best part.  Two months ago Google releases a bug fix for the nest app and what does it do?  it breaks the **bleep** app.  Spinning wheel of death and again in typical Google fashion.. its our fault.  Go read their response on Twitter.  HI, we stumbled over your twit.  your stumbled over my tweet?? what am I in your way of self glamour of how wonderful you are because you break everything?  Proper call center etiquette is NOT to say I hi tripped over you cause you are in my way. Then they go on to twerk of how the spinning wheel is always our fault.  And now last week a new software update is released that only says fixes bug issues. Google will never admit to doing anything wrong. 9 months later google home is still a hot mess.  It took two months for them to fix the nest app bug.  And on here its all hey I closed your thread or don't like it?? send feedback to Google they will ignore it anyway.
