So Google updated their nest cams AGAIN and further ruined Night vision, day time HDR got a bit better but nowhere near as good as it was with 1.65 software, I about had it with Google, look at these picture and tell me if I'm imagining things, the picture on top is the new 1.69 software and the one on the bottom is the 1.67 software just a few minutes before the update, look how fuzzy and grainy everything is with the update, it's like everything is out of focus, STOP MESSING WITH THE CAMERAS GOOGLE, we paid money for this, it's literally unusable at night now.

Hey everyone,
We recently began to roll out a software update for Nest Cam (battery), Nest Doorbell (battery), and Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen) that addresses an issue where some users experienced decreased video quality when operating in low light environments. This update will be rolling out to all users over the coming weeks.
Best,
Edmond

Yea this is seriously a joke. My outdoor cam just got updated and the improvement is BARELY noticeable. The image quality is still complete trash.

It is a huge disappointment. The picture quality when I first installed these was great. I bought 6 total cameras with a plan to buy 2 more. I still have one in the box that I won’t even waste the time installing if this night vision picture quality issue is not resolved and in short manner.

My old Dropcam Pro from 2014 which I have relocated to my garage until support ends in April has better night vision than my brand new camera

My latest camera to receive the update appears to actually have gotten worse. It doesn’t seem to be able to see a far out at night as it did yesterday. It’s hard to take down equipment that we’ve paid so much for and have a subscription for but I’ll be kicking myself if I don’t have I have an incident and these crappy cameras don’t show what I need to see.
11-30-2023 07:21 PM
Agree!!! Google has sent 0 emails/communication. They charge a hell of a lot for CRAP.
11-30-2023 07:35 PM
My cameras received this update yesterday sometime and I checked the quality between Wednesday and a live imagine from tonight (Thursday). All one one appear to have a slight change, one may be even worse. The one at question you could see another building 100 ft away at night. I know what it was but to someone new it would just look like a blurry box. Now that particular camera can’t even see that far it’s just black.

They are losing customers left and right and they dont care, class action lawsuit should be next.
11-30-2023 07:59 PM
I agree.
11-30-2023 07:48 PM
The worst thing about this is I was really hoping that Google was going to get their @%$# together because I was planning on buying six more Nest Cameras. After yet another failed attempt, I can assure you that's not happening.

Outdoor cams updated to 143. They now appear crystal clear.

At night? Prove it. Post your Nest Battery Cam image here.
Here's mine. It's a Nest Floodlight Cam with the new v1.69 OPENMASTER 388143 firmware during the day and at night. This is a brand new replacement camera that Google sent me several months ago before they identified that the problem was firmware, not hardware.
12-02-2023 04:38 AM
So mushy at night, awful
11-30-2023 08:01 PM
What is 143? The current firmware is 1.69 and the channel number is the one that's been updated and from what I've been seeing it did so little to fix the problem, all my cameras got updated yesterday and they are a little bitter but still blurry as hell.
12-01-2023 03:04 AM
Mine updated but they appear to be no better with night vision. The only difference I can see is the video isn’t completely washed out if I disable the night vision on that camera. The problem is, disabling night vision while it’s dark out tends to be no better than fuzzy, no detail night vision, strangely enough. I don’t consider this much better. And yes, I have cleaned the lens, restarted the cameras, made the standard offerings to the security camera gods, etc.
12-01-2023 05:57 AM
Wait a minute. You said that you “cleaned” the lense. Did you use a Google certified cleaning cloth? Was the temperature between 72 and 72.5 degrees when you cleaned the lense? LOL. This is how I feel Google responds to our questions. With another question.
12-01-2023 01:15 PM
Oh well. It was only 71.9 degrees so that must be it.

I think it's time to get the press involved. We can start with 9to5 Google since they've been covering this issue. I would encourage everyone who is participating in this forum to post your experience with the latest update in the comments section of their website, which is located here: https://9to5google.com/2023/11/28/google-nest-night-vision-blurry-update/

dont worry guys, "Lance" will be along shortly to say Google are always looking to improve and to fill out a form. Then we are all golden 👌
12-01-2023 01:52 AM
Night vision still trash with updates. Will be starting a class action soon.
12-01-2023 06:38 AM
Well, seeing we waited 3 months for 388143 which still sucks, I guess we're looking at February or March at this point until these challenged software developers get around to another shot. What a disappointment. Time for Google to exit the hardware business.

Mine still didn't update even though it turned offline 2 days ago for no reason apparently.

Can you please post a daytime and nighttime photo, because some of us who have received the update are still having problems.
12-01-2023 10:57 AM
I don’t have a night photo but will take one tonight and post day vs night. I’ll also post a night vision comparison
12-01-2023 07:12 AM
Mine just went offline and now shows the new 38xxx firmware. Not showing any picture yet 😂
12-01-2023 09:24 AM
My battery doorbell updated and is still horrible.
12-01-2023 09:26 AM
Without IR the image is now worse at night than before and with IR the image looks better with more detail.
Not a great update 😂
12-01-2023 11:01 PM
Must be one of the lucky ones. After shots with and without night vision. I do have lights out front. Clearer for me.
12-01-2023 11:14 PM
It's because the lights, when my flood lights come on and night vision is still on then it's clear but when it's pitch black it's still terrible.
12-02-2023 04:41 AM
At this point I'm thinking about just moving over to Ring/Alexa Echo. The Nest Doorbell is by far the worst at night. Had the Tapo doorbell for a week, fantastic at night but no integration really into either Alexa or Google Home.
12-02-2023 11:27 AM
An improvement for me. At least kinda like somewhere it was before.

12-02-2023 12:01 PM
I get that everyone's mileage may vary with this, but for me, I've seen a significant improvement. I'm not sure it's quite as good as before, but if not, it's really close. My Doorbell cam never did have the issues, but my outdoor cam did. The big improvement I'm seeing is clarity in focus and more defined edges, like the edge of a patch of grass used to be fuzzy, is now very clear. Overall, I'm happy.
12-02-2023 12:14 PM
Can you post a few photos, especially at night?
12-02-2023 12:15 PM
Likewise.
My 3 cams have updated, as has 1 doorbell. Only 1 more doorbell to go but overall this is more or less as it was in May when I first got the cameras and the video at night was spot on.
12-02-2023 04:39 PM
How hard is it to just roll back the software to 1.65? That was the best software and no one complained about it, this here barely made a difference, it's still garbage.
12-02-2023 04:52 PM
How hard? Chances are someone at corporate who has no clue about this stuff has told engineering that the file sizes are too large – despite the fact that we all pay for this storage – and they need to come up with a compression algorithm that cuts file/streaming size in half. But, people immediately noticed the degradation in quality and complained. Now engineering is tasked with coming up with a novel compression algorithm that cuts file size in half without losing image quality. That's how hard it is.

Confirmed updates to all cameras. Images still garbage. Very little change. Highly disappointing,
