Nest Cam 1.69 Update ruined night vision even more

SuperAdam

So Google updated their nest cams AGAIN and further ruined Night vision, day time HDR got a bit better but nowhere near as good as it was with 1.65 software, I about had it with Google, look at these picture and tell me if I'm imagining things, the picture on top is the new 1.69 software and the one on the bottom is the 1.67 software just a few minutes before the update, look how fuzzy and grainy everything is with the update, it's like everything is out of focus, STOP MESSING WITH THE CAMERAS GOOGLE, we paid money for this, it's literally unusable at night now.

Hey everyone,

We recently began to roll out a software update for Nest Cam (battery), Nest Doorbell (battery), and Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen) that addresses an issue where some users experienced decreased video quality when operating in low light environments. This update will be rolling out to all users over the coming weeks.

Best,
Edmond

Same exact issue with my floodlight cam, night vision was great a week ago, now it’s pixilated and blurry.

I feel your pain, hopefully there’s an update to fix this issue soon but I won’t hold my breath.

Please keep us posted.

I doubt it will be soon, you thought your night vision looked great before this update? Then you didn't notice that it was top notch on 1.65 firmware, Google already ruined these cameras in June but it wasn't this bad, this screenshot was before any update, it was the 1.65 and the night vision was top notch, you can zoom in all the way and see all the details perfectly with no fuzziness or blurriness.

I thought this was just me. It started today. I'll also be making a post. Maybe if more people post their grievances they'll hopefully do something about it.

This is extremely dangerous, this isn't like the Pixel where they can make a crap phone and no one cares. This is a actual security concern.

Yep, I get some stray cats in my back yard and I swear one orange tabby cat just blended into the back ground that all you can see is a blob of something walking around, good luck if it was a person, you would not get any kind of description, you'd just see a figure when before you can see things clearly even in night vision.

I thought I was going crazy, but I'm noticing this on both my outdoor nest battery and battery doorbell.  I don't even use night vision as both are in well lit locations. Within the past week, during the night, the cameras are completely different than they were before.  Super grainy, fuzzy and even worse when you zoom in.  Please fix this Google!

I thought my eyes were getting blurry from staying up late the last couple of days but its actually  the firmware update! lol  Mine started doing this a few days ago, looks like it's focus on a  area and make everything else super blurry and grainy

%100 this, in the middle it's focused but everywhere around its super blurry, who does Google hire for these firmware updates? A billion dollar company can't find competent people to do this job, it's absurd.

This is exactly what's happened to mine. I prefer using normal mode at night so when the security lights come on I get better quality video. And now I can't see anything on the camera at night

Yep, now watch Google goons come into this blog and tell us that it's us and not the firmware and tell us to "turn it on and off".

Or you need to clean the lenses or your wifi is to blame.

Mine looks exactly the same! They are decent in day time, but at night time it turns into these pixelateed mess, I have 4 solar light in the garden bed, before the update when I zoom in on them, they look perfectly crisp, now the moment after the sun goes down, my video turn into those blurry mess shown in your screenshot, I thought there was something wrong with my camera lol

It looks like a cost cutting method? Make the video file/quality poorer (e.g. 720p to 480p) but try to use A.I. to fix the garbage.

It's cost cutting when it comes to the people google hire to make the software updates too, there is literally no difference between video modes, max and high look exactly the same.

"have you tried moving the router closer to the device" when it is around 2ft away from it already...

I expect this from some cheap no-name crap. But this is Google Nest, which is supposed to be a premium brand. I'm not sure who's running the Google Nest division, but it's definitely time for a leadership change. In fact, our whole country could benefit from that as well. (American flag emoji)

Wow! There's not even an American flag emoji in this forum. And the ability to post photos is still missing.

Currently have two Nest Cam Battery and noticed this latest update has made it utter garbage at night.

Previous to this update daytime was the same. Now they seemed to have fixed the day and made the night worse.

Does nobody from Google test these poor firmware updates before pushing them out to the public. Such a piss poor attitude to give your customers who paid for this.

$40 Wyze Cam V3 shines with this crap firmware

This is why I get mad, I have 4 of these cameras outside and I got nest cam indoor and I bought them individually, so no discount for buying 2 or more, that's $180x5 and that's $900 and these are not the only cameras, I have 3 more nest cams and a nest hello doorbell first Gen but at least those are function way better than the new ones right now, I am heavily invested in google and to see what they have done to these cameras is infuriating, I have seen the wyze cam v3 and they can do and for the price they sure punch way above their price.

Can confirm 1.69 on all of mine.  Exposure of daytime images looks better but I also have the “Vaseline on the lens effect”  for all daytime and nighttime.  Absolutely terrible image quality and a marked change from a year ago.   Useless in current form and it feels like a purposeful change—likely as suggested by someone else to save bandwidth and storage.  Unless there is a change back to the previously good image quality, I’ll be seeking alternatives.   Very disappointing,

Just when I thought things could not get any worse than with the 1.67 version. The 1.69 firmware has made all of my 3 cameras useless!

Google please rename the good old working 1.65 version to 1.71 and make an OTA firmware update of it because clearly you can not make any approments to your software.

My cameras will soon find their way to the trashbin and it will be bye bye to Google Home. Saddly I have a year of Nest Aware subscription left.

I literally cannot see anything in my garden at night now. It's just black. We have a storm happening and I can't see if my fences or anything have blown away. Great update to the cameras Google!

It gives "night vision" a whole new meaning.

Same, I thought it was in my head at first, then maybe condensation and then I traced it back to exactly 1225 AM on September 19. There's a small gap in video, before that is somewhat clear...afterwards it's an unusable mess. That must have been when the update rolled. This is awful and seriously has be reconsidering my commitment to these products. Roll back the updates or fix it because right now the night vision is almost useless.

Kjimi

When the sun starts to go down the picture quality drops drasticly and goes to grainy and blurry. Before the update the image was clear in dim lighting. Now the cameras are useless between evening and dawn because of the blurry grainy image.

Google cant stop ruining these cameras, they already ruined them with the previous update, the 1.67, the 1.65 was the best update.

I agree 100%. Having the same issues as soon as it gets dark. Everything is grainy and blurry a few feet from the camera. It wasn’t like this before.

I have the same problem. I was on the phone with Google support twice, and after a couple of hours each, they decided to send me a replacement cam. I installed the replacement cam and it is the same out of focus picture at night.

I called Google support again, and this time I was told that it is a known problem, Google engineering is working on it, but they do not have an ETA.

I am extremely disappointed with Google support and engineering. I spent a lot of money on cameras, I need it mostly and night - and now the cameras are totally useless.

Before and after the update 1.69. Brutal downgrade.

How can I downgrade?

SuperAdam

Unfortunately you can't, Google has total control of the software upgrades, there is not even an option in settings to check for updates, Google just pushes them whenever they feel like it

I'm having the same issue many others are having with the blurry night vision video. Started today and it's absolutely atrocious. I also agree with others, that these updates you guys push onto us have done nothing but make things absolutely worse. First, the washed-out videos, and now this?! I can't recommend this camera or brand to anyone anymore, I would be doing them a disservice.

(These photos are only a day apart.)

What the hell is going on?? This is a security concern, these Google engineers should be fired. They need to fix this asap

Mine just started doing this a few days ago on 2 outdoor cams,  I thought my the cams were going bad. Good to know someone else is experiencing the same issue.

I started having the same issue in the last 1-2 months. A few months ago, during the day time these cameras started showing a pink hue and in the last couple of weeks, the night time video is absolutely blurry (within a month the quality has gotten worse - photos attached). What’s going on here? I purchased them thinking the Nest brand was top notch! Any resolutions yet? Please advise!

Same here - horrible night vision quality the past few days. Seems blurry in the middle of the frame. I’ve tried everything. Reset it. Nothing works.

I also have the same issue on nest cam and nest doorbell. Needs fixing asap!

Especially in some cases paying $250+ for a nest camera, you expect good quality. I hope my car doesn't get stolen at night before the next update as I'll be pissed! I'm really disappointed with the negligence from Google!
