Nest Doorbell (Original Wired) Bootloop

Kvenkat

Hello All

Since January 2022 there is a steady stream of inquiries around the reboot loop that the Nest Hello wired goes through, rendering it useless. Here is a video from youtube of one of the affected doorbells. Is it a coincidence that so many doorbells started showing the same issue in December 2021/ January 2022.

Has anyone else managed to fix their device (not replaced by google)?

Regards

Karthik

Hello! I can confirm that this was about the same time my original Nest Hello (Wired) doorbell started the bootloop issue. I've measured voltage at the contacts and are reading 18V just fine.

I tried the factory reset but I couldn't get the doorbell to respond when pressing the reset button on the back at the same time as the front button.

I tried changing the internal battery as well. It doesn't work.

Hey Brad!

Yes I'm still having the issue on my side 😞

Today I disconnected the Hello and plugged it in via USB to try and perform the reset that way. I let it sit first to try and charge the internal battery first before trying the reset without any luck..

@kage012

I would suggest that you reach out to Support and see if they can walk you through some troubleshooting steps. My suggestion would be to Factory Reset the device, but if that isn't what you want to do, I get that.

Best regards,

Brad.

@Brad

I was planning on doing this. I've tried all the trouble shooting tips I've read around here and online from what I can tell short of swapping the battery like @Kvenkat has done.

I cannot get my unit to factory reset because it won't stay powered on long.

enough to complete the process, neither on wired power nor USB. I press the small button on the back and the ring button on the front, it lights up and then shuts off, the green light up top flashes as if the power was pulled, and then remains unresponsive until I release all the buttons.

I read somewhere online that one person had an issue with the networking module. Not sure if that's what I'm experiencing on mine though..

Support told the device is broken. No root cause provided. No details that could help a person to try and fix the device themselves. As if they just want us to buy a new device. Planned obsolescence

From what I've read there's a varying degree of years people's Hellos have lasted. Anywhere from 2 years to 5 but all seem to be failing only in the last few months regardless of the age..

yes. just in time for the launch of the Google Nest Doorbell battery. Exact same thing happned with Nest thermostat too in Sep 2021. Fortunately it broke down a week before the warranty expired so I could get a replacement. but google nest engineer had the audacity to tell me that all electronic devices breakdown. Imagine if your washing machine, Microwave, Dish washers start breaking down in 2 years for being an electronic device. The nest products are expensive products. 250 odd euros for a doorbell that breaks down in just over 2 years is just not acceptable. Its a very expensive paperweight to possess.

Looks like the problem is not limited to nest hello alone. "[U: Happening again] Some Nest and Google Wifi routers have been going offline at random" https://9to5google.com/2022/04/14/nest-google-wifi-offline-random/
