Nest Floodlight + Nest App

Seriously?! What genius thought it was a great idea to not allow a Nest product to work in the Nest app? I purchased a new Nest floodlight and just finished installing it. I have a Nest doorbell, two Nest thermostats, about 6 or 8 Nest Protects and it all works perfectly in the....you guessed it, Nest app. NOW, I installed the latest Nest Floodlight with camera and lo and behold it doesn't work with the Nest app because Google has decided they want to migrate everything to a new app? Is this being corrected or do I need to return this product?

@flug

You've discovered what many of us Google Nest customers have discovered upon purchasing a new Google Nest camera in recent months: the new Google Nest cameras released in the fall of 2021 work only with the Google Home app and not with the Google Nest app (and not with the home.nest.com website).

You can find Google's explanation or justification (and customer reactions) on these blogs on this forum.  You can judge for yourself whether Google is going to correct this.

What do you think, are they leaning towards fixing it? I have tried to play around with Google Home and I cannot stand it. I think it is clunky and I often check my Nest feeds from the Nest website but that doesn't seem to be an option.

I have no insights into what Google is going to do.  I'm just another Google Nest customer who now has to use two apps to track our cameras.

They really screwed up the launch of products people were excited about, this sucks. I think I'll just return mine and go back to how it was. Not a fan of "We want to fix customers having to use two apps, so we're going to make you use two apps until we figure it out at some point."

I purchased the nest flood light camera because I wanted it to work with all my other cameras, hubs etc. I have a chrome cast that I say show cameras and they all come up on my TV EXCEPT the flood light camera because the Google "NEST" flood light camera does not work with the "NEST" app. This is ridiculous, either give the Google home app the functionality of the nest app or allow the Nest flood light camera to connect to the NEST app. I want one system for everything so unless they fix it I will switch companies.

Leave them reviews, accurate reviews that tell people what to expect will hurt sales so much more than your purchasing power alone can do.

Hey folks,

Thank you for your feedback on this issue, I fully understand the frustrations of not having your new Nest Cams in the Nest App or available on https://bit.ly/3HtBgJC web app. I can imagine having to use two different apps at the moment is quite daunting, and could lead to frustration.

However, the new Nest cameras and doorbell are exclusive to the Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with your speakers and displays. A Nest Aware subscription applies to all of your cameras, speakers, and displays in the same home structure. Thank you for your continued patience, and support. I am more than happy to assist you further with this inquiry if you wish. Please let me know.

Best Regards,

Brad.

I also just setup my garage cam and discovered it only can be setup in google home. How ridiculous. I like to scan all my cameras at once and google home only displays one camera at a time. Hoping google corrects this and allows nest app to see this camera as well.

@Tteag

If you click on the "Cameras" icon in the Google Home app, it displays the current feed for all of your cameras (but you can't access history for your older cameras there).  Unfortunately, it seems to be slower in displaying the camera feeds than in the Google Nest app; it's not uncommon for some of the camera windows to stay black and "Connecting" for quite awhile.  In addition, once the feed is displayed on the initial page where all of the feeds are shown at once, the name of the camera is no longer displayed.

Yes, but as you mention, the speed is painfully slow and you can’t see history or camera names. Poor substitute for the way the Nest app works. Hopefully google will just go back to allowing camera feeds of new cameras on the original nest app. Why change what isn’t broken. If not, no reason to stay with nest products for future purchases which would be a shame.

I do NOT understand how they can call this a Nest Cam with Floodlight and NOT allow it to be on the Nest App!!! AND - I keep my nest app up on my home computer so I can watch my cameras - guess what I cannot DO with Google HOME - there is NO real google home for PC!!! Unreal!! I have multiple nest cameras, thermostat and door bell yet this one will not work.. I'm so disgusted!! What in the world were they thinking? This need to be resolved - or take the 'Nest' off your camera - I'm pretty sure that's false advertising!
