Nest Hello chime box buzzing

Mattkaz

I installed a Nest Hello doorbell this past summer. Worked great for awhile and technically is still working. It still rings when someone pushes the button and I can still access the video feed through my Google devices.

The problem is that the chime box in my living room is constantly buzzing for ~ 20 seconds and then stops. It repeats that every minute or so. Every now and then, the chime randomly goes off when no one is at the door.

I had it professionally installed and it either wasn't buzzing at first or I only recently noticed it. I contacted the company that installed it and they said if it's an issue pertaining to the actual installation or the transformer they installed, then they'll fix it for free. If it's any other issue (the doorbell itself, the chime box, etc...) then it is a 200 dollar diagnostic fee. I don't really want to bring them in for a coin flip over whether it will cost me more than it cost to install and almost as much as I paid for the doorbell itself.

See photo for chime installation.

Hi,

I am not sure why you are having this issue with the buzzing but I will check with our Community team.

Some of the typical troubleshooting suggestions are: checking the wiring at the doorbell and chime for any exposed copper that could be intermittently touching, and if all that checks out, verifying the transformer rating for voltage and its power specification.

Thanks for posting and including the picture- super helpful.

Hello,  This should be fixable.   I believe there are 2 possibilities that should get you up and running without the doorbell buzzing.

#1 I can't tell from the picture but I would double check that they wired it correctly.  Here is a Youtube video that shows you how.

#2 There is a setting in the app on your phone to check.  Go into the Nest App and view the doorbell video.  Click on the gear in the upper right corner and in the list you will see a setting for CHIME DURATION.  Try changing these setting to see if the buzzing  goes away.  If you have an electronic chime set the duration as low as it goes (I think it is 1 second)

Hope this helps

I did escalate your issue over to the Nest Community Specialist and this is their reply.  Let us know if any of this helps and we can relay back over to them

Chime buzzing can occur when a Nest doorbell is configured for an electronic chime but it's actually connected to a mechanical chime. If this is the case, simply have the customer access the settings of their Nest doorbell and change the chime type from electronic to mechanical. Changing the chime duration from off to 1 does the same.

A buzzing chime can also be caused by intermittent contact from exposed doorbell wiring. Make sure that there’s no excessive exposed copper that could touch another wire or the doorbell's metal backplate.
