Nest cameras and doorbell have no audio on Android

Jamesy
Community Member

I have Nest cameras and doorbell. I watch through multiple mediums like my phone and tablet through the HOME APP. I've never had any issues with the audio.

However my android recently got updated as did Google HOMEAPP and now I can't hear audio when I'm watching video or doorbell.

I've been in the nest setting to make sure microphone was on. It is. I also checked and rebooted my phone and cameras and couldn't find any resolution.

Please help

Since "Blueqoull" locked my previous thread because hes an idiot, I'll just repost it again....

Whenever I try to monitor my cameras via my phone, the sound activates in "in-call' so I can barely hear it. Obviously this is a well documented issue, yet no one at Google has seemed to come up with a solution. Do I need to throw these junk ass cameras away and go with a better brand or is Google going to fix the issue?

Hello everyone,

Thanks for the additional information. We're still working on this. For everybody who hasn't tried making sure the media call volume is set to max, earbuds or Bluetooth headphones aren't being used. And trying it when there´s no active call in the background. Please try it now and let us know if the issue persists.

I look forward to your responses.

Thanks,

Renz

Hey everyone,

We apologize if this is taking longer than expected. Thank you for your patience with us. Google Home App 3.10 was rolled out yesterday for Android devices. Please check for an update on your Google Home app and let us know if the issue persists.

Best,

Renz

I did a full ( press the hole in the back ) reset and still no sound for android.

Many/Everyone on here have tried this as it was mentioned before 5 times. This doesn't fix the no sound during live video. Each time this is repeated we all give the same answer. It's not a solution nor does it work.

We need an updated software to fix this issue.

@RenzJ , the issue persists. 😤

FYI, I have a yard camera ( not the doorbell camera ) connected to the Nest app. and the sound comes through clearly on my android phone through the Nest app. So it's definitely a Google/Android connection problem.

speaker from visitor to home is not working. visitor that rings doorbell can hear me but I cannot hear them. It has been going on for about 3 weeks. IS there something I can do to fix it? Doorbell/Nest is less than a year old

It's nothing you can do. Google has to update its software for the cameras. On this thread they repeated their 101 steps but none of those work. They mentioned in other threads and on here they're working on the issue but they've not gave any update about the issue.

This really needs to be fixed some have been experiencing this issue for months.

We all have,we all have done all the troubleshooting, we've all reset everything, we've all uninstalled and reinstalled,,the problem is not on our end, google needs to figure this out

Jamesy

That is nt the problem statement.

The sound (with volume up) no longer comes out via the phone speaker, it comes via the phone's earpiece.

It is a Google Home issue working with Android V13 and above

Bro, we aren't stupid. No one is on an active call or connected to a Bluetooth device. Google acts like their user base is a bunch of window lickers.

I used to be able to hear audio and now I cannot. I am very frustrated

RUbycu2

Wow...I'm having the exact same issue!! Cannot hear any audio!

It's a big issue that Google needs to address. They've not gave any updates on the issue. They just said it's known and being worked on, then they hop on and repeat their 101 steps that don't work.

Seen many updates on other Google products/apps but they haven't even announced an fix/update to the no audio during live video.

What ticket number are you using for this?

It's still not working. Wtf, I'd rather get my money back if we're getting features taken away from us.

I've done this many times, still same issue. Here's one weird thing I've noticed that may help the Google team? When I am connected to Bluetooth in my car, and i open the live camera on my Google nest, it connects to call.  I'll close the app, and my car still thinks I'm connected to a call. Basically, I feel like the Nest camera is forcing android phones into some sort of call mode... which is why the audio playback comes thru our phone/ear speaker.. rather than the actual stereo phone speakers

Can we get an update on this please. Getting response back that it's being worked on from other forms with same issue... but no updates or conformation from community management or release notes.

Google and Nest help no longer exist...now I wish I didn't have any of their products or apps!

The sound coming out of my phone is exactly like the help and support Google are providing to solve this issue: nothing!

There's been other fixes even to their own phones but no mention to an update with no audio during live video. Will attach a link to the article: https://www.forbes.com/sites/jaymcgregor/2023/11/03/google-rolls-out-urgent-pixel-update-for-android...

This is for android v14 that's not even rolled out but they haven't fixed a massive problem with no audio during live video on Android v13. Some are already posted in the media outlets of the no audio during live video but Google hasn't rolled out an update on when or expressed the urgency of the issue. This is a serious security/life event problem and as stated above many use this to take care of individual's by speaking through the audio. Google fix this issue please.

I have purchased a bunch of Nest Wired (2nd gen), Outdoor (battery) cameras and the Doorbell (battery) to replace the older Nest equipment which worked perfectly with the Nest app.  Now, in Google Home app , with all the new cameras the audio is set to the max, microphone is on, and it barely picks up or transmits any sound. All of the live feeds are pretty much muted, and when I view old cams  (I still have a few outside) they are also muted even though they worked well before, but when I view them in the Nest app they work well and are very loud.  Suggestions?

I'm on Samsung 23Ultra.

This has been an issue for a while now. A good amount of people have no sound during live video. Just about all Android users are affected.

Will attach a link with many people with same issue. They said it's being looked at but no update given or progress provided from admin management.

https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Cameras-and-Doorbells/Nest-cameras-and-doorbell-have-no-audio...

I believe that the problem is that the device is using my phone speaker, however there is no option to select SPEAKERPHONE like on a Ring device.  In order to hear anything, you have to put the phone up to your ear, but what is the point of having a live video feed then??

Yes exactly. I'm being forced to dump Nest for Google Home and it's horrible. It seems only Samsung devices are affected.

It seems that this forum was created to ping pong bs back and forth. The issue has been determined. The users have provided all the information. Same users spend hundreds/thousands of dollars for this tech, and there is still no update? Are you serious?

S23 Ultra - Brand new 13 Cameras - Indoor Wired 2nd Gen / Outdoor (Battery) / Door Bell Battery.... Zero speakerphone audio, audio is only available via the "in-line call" ; this a terrible fiasco. Fix it. Please.

Google has zero interest in fixing this problem. I have had the same problem And complaint since my 20 ultra days, and never once have I had a real answer given by Google. They got your money and they know that's won't switch camera systems so they aren't worried about a fix. They also sell your data which is really that Google is all about. They are a data company first, the tech they build is just the vessel.

@RenzJ  Can we get an updated or at least have management give a follow up to this issue please.

Has anyone called and asked for management/ escalation member? I've seen many updates to most of their apps/products but none for the security camera system with no audio during live video.

This is been a month just about with no real update on the issue. Have a nest smoke/ Carbon dioxide device that does monthly checks by sound check, it completes the check by making noise. This time it made no noise! Now this is becoming a safety concern in to many ways. Can only think of something happening with the device not actually sounding the alarm. If anyone has this also might want to check.

@Everyone

This morning my sound returned to all devices.

Please check yours  ✔️ and advise

Nothing on mine @Jamesy 😔. I've got 7 across 2 'homes'. Nothing on any of them. I can't see an update available on the store. What did you do different?

Jamesy

What region are you located.   Both our Android 13 phones are now working

Did you do anything? Was still having no sound during live video.

@Jamesy  Did you do anything for the live video sound to work?

Many are still having the issue.

Jamesy

Nothing at all.

My wife discovered it was suddenly working again this morning.

I checked my phone and it was working asio.

I checked for any Android updates and Google Home and there were none!

I am hoping it will be rolled ot Globally,  I am in Australia so perhaps it is being rolled out by timezone or region.

Whatever they did, the fixed it

Siesta

No they didn't. There's been no update to the app. I'm in Australia too and the issue is the same.

1in1class
Community Member

Yeah still same issue no sound during live video, haven't seen any updates to the app or software. Not sure how that went through.

Google really needs to fix this. Your unable to speak through the cameras or hear any live video sound, smoke/Carbon dioxide makes no sound during system check.

This is affecting people's daily lives. Is it gonna take something happening to where an individual gets hurt or worse. Seen them update just about all their platforms except their security cameras. You would think they would make this at the top of updates to keep people safe. Would suggest everyone to try to reach out to them and ask for management or anything to push this urgency.

Wow, my audio is working as well!

Hey all, it seemed I was having the same issue for a while. However yesterday when I put a ticket in for help with Support, I found my doorbell video sound working. Usually, when I open the Home app to view live/recorded video and increase the volume, the in-call volume increases but no sound will come out. However, when I expand the sound setting and increase the Media volume, I can finally hear sound from the videos.

I've done this before last week, but it didn't work; all of a sudden it did yesterday before I could go into troubleshooting with Support. Hoping some, if not all, find this helpful.

Same phone and everything else, I do have audio via speakerphone when playing back only, not on live. Live still goes though the in-call speaker. Are you 100% sure you are getting also live feed audible via your bottom speaker?

Viax
Community Member

When I increase the Media volume, I can get sound from both the bottom and top speakers of the phone. For whatever reason, when I raise the phone to my head 'upright' (i.e., like on on the phone), the audio noticeable muffles in the top speaker.

I was able to finally listen to recorded videos, as well.
