Nest doorbell wired (1st) now always offline the last couple months. Why?

I have the original wired next doorbell Generation 1. It has been working fine for years. Now the last couple months it keeps going offline randomly for hours at a time! Then it will go back online. This has never happened the whole time I have had the doorbell. I found many people with 1st Gen doorbell having this issue. What is going on? Was there some sort of software update causing this issue? My router is Google Home and it’s located within 10 feet of the doorbell.

I suspect it is may not be caused by a software update, or there would be many posts on that in this forum. We haven't noticed any offline issues with our three Google Nest Hello Doorbells (ages 5 years, 3-1/2 years, and 3 years.

Have there been any changes at all in your Wi-Fi network?

We are having the same issue we our 1st Generation Nest Hello doorbell. We just did the migration today to see if that fixed things but so far still randomly goes offline.

I don't know why your doorbell is going offline, but I don't think migrating from a Nest Account to a Google Account changes any of the functionality of the doorbell.  We migrated in 2020 and still use the Google Nest app to access and administer our 1st gen Google Nest Hello Doorbells (and ours are not going offline).

When the doorbell is offline, is there power going to it at all?  Can you see the light surrounding the button? Does it ring when pressed?  Mpis is (as normal) correct, this wouldn't be a software update, I also have 1st gen nest hello and don't have this issue.  I will say I used to have a similar issue but the root cause was poor wifi signal, relocating my wifi points fixed the issue for me .

I have a similar issue.
We just had our original nest hello gen 1 doorbell die. Would not charge etc. It was about 6 years old.

Replaced it just after Xmas with new (still gen 1) Nest Hello Doorbell.
Same modem and router setup for 3 years. No changes. Router is 12 feet away. We have 4 nest cams in this house. Other 3 are totally fine (and further from the router).
After about 2 months (end of Feb 2024) the new (1st gen) doorbell stopped producing video. Just blank in the app. Message says the “camera is offline”. The small green light at the top is on. The ring light on the button is off.
Went through troubleshooting:

1. Reset modem - no improvement

2. I have google mesh wifi as well. Restarted network - no improvement.

3. Checked voltage of transformer - 24v consistent. Power is preset at the wires on the back of the device and the transformer terminals.

4. Reset camera - camera came back on and worked for 3 hours.
5. Reset camera again -  Worked for 2 days and then quit again.

I’m going to factory reset today and see if that has any effect. I suspect these may have an internal (non serviceable) battery (?), and that could be the problem.

Any thoughts on what to do next?

Thanks!

It's probably not the internal battery.

The purpose of the internal battery on the 1st gen Google Nest Hello Doorbell is to provide power to the doorbell during the instant when the doorbell button is pressed. When the battery fails, the doorbell goes offline for a minute whenever the doorbell button is pressed, but otherwise works fine. The internal battery has failed in succession on all 3 of our Nest Hellos, but because we've turned off the "Indoor chime" option (using the "Visitor announcements" option instead), our doorbells no longer go offline.

Thanks for the reply.
We have never had the chime enabled. It makes our dogs go crazy when someone rings the bell.
I don’t think what is happening to our doorbell involves the chime. Maybe not the battery either.
