Nest hello doorbell with Alexa echo 5

sjm1027

I have a new nest Hello and everything works fine, I can see video, I get messages and I have a blue ring around the button. My issue is like many others my mechanical chime doesn’t work.
I have 11.2v from the transformer, I read that it should work from 10v to16v (I am not sure)

I checked the wiring, neat also checked the wiring and settings, even the nest rep. Said it should work if I have a blue ring around the button. My problem is I will have a hard time changing the transformer because it’s behind the wall in my basement done by previous owner. I also have a few Alexa show 5’s around the house. I can see video from all my nest cameras as well as blink but is there a way to hear when the doorbell is pressed through the show 5’s?

If I picked up a Google device would it ring like a chime when the doorbell is pressed?

i have a wired chime and iOS

thanks

@sjm1027

Some customers, including us, got our indoor mechanical chime to work with the Nest Hello doorbell by turning electrical chime on and then off again under the "Chime duration" setting.

If you turn on "Visitor announcements" on your Nest Hello, it will play a chime sound and say "Someone's at the Front Door" on all your Nest Hubs, Nest Minis, and other Nest speakers. (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7672451?hl=en)

I don't know whether "Visitor announcements" will work with an Alexa Show 5.

Thanks, I have done all the workarounds and potential fixes but still having issues.

@sjm1027

Maybe this Google Nest Help page will help in getting visitor announcements on your Alexa Show 5s:

Thanks for that information, but my problem may be the app.

When I go to the google app, touch and hold the doorbell icon, then press settings, I do not see visitor announcements. I do see visitor announcements on my nest app, and it is on.

It also says it's only supported to the nest doorbell (Battery) I have the wired Hello Doorbell.

Turn on doorbell press announcements

  1. Open the Google Home app sjm1027_0-1660917012660.jpeg

     touch and hold your doorbell's tile.
  2. Tap Settings sjm1027_2-1660917012656.png

     Doorbell.
  3. Turn on visitor announcements.
  4. You can now turn doorbell press announcements on or off in the Alexa app.

@sjm1027

I should have read the Google Nest Help page more carefully with an eye towards the fact you have a Google Nest Hello Doorbell. In re-reading the section on "Alexa doorbell and camera announcements" I do see it says "Alexa doorbell announcements are only supported on Nest Doorbell (battery)." Sorry.

Regarding your indoor chime not ringing, the only other thing I can suggest is to double-check the wiring for your Chime Connector, but you've probably done this:
https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Cameras-and-Doorbells/Wiring-diagram/m-p/24455

I do know that "Visitor announcements" work on all Nest Hubs and Nest Minis; it works for us. (The internal batteries on our Nest Hellos started failing in less than 2 years, which causes the doorbell's camera to go offline when the doorbell is pressed, unless we turn off the internal chime. Lots of customers have this issue and Google Nest won't replace them: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Cameras-and-Doorbells/Nest-Hello-Doorbell-cuts-out-when-butto...).

Hi folks,

Thanks for your help here, MplsCustomer. I hope you've got the answer you're looking for. Have a look at this guide: Control Nest products with Amazon Alexa.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

JT

Hi sjm1027,

I'm sorry to hear that but thanks for trying. Visit Amazon's website for help with your Alexa, including its connection to Nest products. For example, you may need to toggle permissions for the Nest skill, or you may need to disable the skill and then re-enable it. Amazon's website has step by step instructions and additional troubleshooting suggestions: https://goo.gle/3Q4e9Jw: Alexa Devices Help.

You might want to talk to their support team as well for further assistance over the phone.

Best regards,

JT
