New cam battery not compatible with Nest App!!??

JustinSG
Community Member

Buyers need to be aware that the new Nest Cam battery is not (currently) compatible with the Nest App!  And the Home App does not give access to 24/7 video even if you have purchased the $12/month nest aware subscription.  The Home app merely allows you to see the events that are recorded, not 24/7 video.  This is very disappointing.

I hope Google Nest is working on a solution to this incompatibility problem with its own app.  The 24/7 video recording with the nest aware upgrade also needs to be remedied or remove the misleading advertising.

Please fix this Nest.. Home app is not the answer for customers with 20 cameras.

Yeah kinda bs

Unfortunately, the home app IS the answer as google is moving all the products under this app and the nest app will be going away.  Its not something that needs to be "fixed" in the nest app.  I imagine they will continue to add functionality into the home app but we arent quite there yet it seems.

Sorry Jimbo. This has to be fixed. Period..the home app is trash compared to the nest app.

I hate to disappoint but it's not going to happen in the nest app. The fix is changes to the home app.

Community outrage over your opinion

Also replying to this thread. Google has screwed up Nest now to the point many customers will be moving to other vendors as a result. Adding my opinion the the community outrage here.

I also want to add my name to the list of people who are annoyed by this.

I've generally got no problem with it all being in the Home App, but as long as ALL the functionality is moved across too. If Google can't do that, then the least they can do is make the new cameras available in Nest App.

Would it be a lot simpler to have the new cameras appear in the NEST APP until such time that the HOME APP is improved?  And to be honest we all know that is a minimum of 6+ months and even then not all the functions will get migrated.  I'm just going on the Google's track record here. 1 step forward 4 steps back seems to be their way.  This is so disrespectful to the current customer base.  These new cams are so different because of the Google HOME app that they should have never had the NEST name connected to them.  ... just my opinion.  Shame on you Google.  You have more resources than just about any company and this is what you release?

Just got setting mine up and I was severely disappointed in this same fact. They really should use one all for everything already.

Gonna jump on the wagon here and admit I’d have never purchased knowing it does not integrate with the nest app. You can tell me they’re working on the home app all you want. But it’s always been crap. It’s still crap and phasing out near app shouldn’t have been done until people were actually happy with home app. I see one person supporting home app. Probably some computer wiz. Very disappointing. If the home app does not improve. I’ll most likely be switching to ring or the Amazon system.

Thank you for your patience, and please let me know if you need further assistance.

If nest software does not work with it. It's no longer a nest product. The nest software recommends this hardware and it doesn't work with it.

If nest cams are not able to monitor 24/7 with home app and cant be hooked to another cctv monitoring app then not worth having and we should all be able to get our money back so we can buy something that works

I just bought 2 cameras to add to the 8 nest cameras I already have on my farm and I am so disappointed that I cannot see these cameras through my nest app which is fast and easy to use and necessary on a farm. There are too many steps to have to view each camera separately in the home app. This just isn’t going to work. I am so upset that I am going to have to return these.

I was really disappointed by this as well.  I assume the goal is to eventually discontinue the Nest app however having the cameras and notification from form a separate app other than Google Home is more effective to me.  I don't ming having my cameras available in the Home App however the security of my home is different than the automation in my mind. I'd vote to keep that separation maintained.

Yes, Brad. As far as I can tell, this issue remains unresolved. I'd love it if you can tell me otherwise.

Has Google updated the software to make the Nest Cam battery compatible with the Nest app yet?

Please notify us  as soon as they do.

@Brad I appreciate you passing this along, but please leave it open so that we can add our names to the list of people waiting for a solution. the subscription we bought is supposed to give us access to all the recordings, and I just dont see how to do that that at all

Yes it's still fraud. It has a nest logo but doesn't work with nest software.

Best Regards,

Thanks Brad,

So let me break it out in a few simple bullets:

  • Keep the Google Home Camera section as a separate app. It's not user-friendly to have to click/select twice as opposed to only once
  • The history process needs to be user-friendly like it is with Nest. In Google Home it's simply bad to have to scroll by seconds v. hours/days
  • Make it easy for users to select/pay for storage of videos, but also make it easy to unselect without a long term contract. Offer 24 hrs as min, then 3 days, 5 days, 10 days, and 30 days.
  • When you open the app, the standard view should all be in 'live mode'. It's a major pain to have to switch all cameras from idle to live. Of course we keep it in idle on battery operated cameras otherwise it would drain the battery - completely understood - but when opening the app it should automatically put them to live mode
  • Nice to show the charging % on the battery camera view, but provide an indicator for those cameras hard wired. For those of us with a combination of battery and hard wired it's nice to quickly see which one is which, especially if you have over a dozen cameras
  • Provide a tile layout as an option when you open the app, so that you can see all your cameras on one screen without having to scroll
  • Sell hardware in your store that can assist in hiding wires for both inside and outside the home
  • Give us the option to move the other functions, i.e. thermostat, onto the same layout. With Nest both cameras and thermostat for example are on the same screen. It's just much better to have that option. Again, I understand why you'd want to separate it on the home screen, but allow us to combine them. Nobody likes closing and opening up the various screens for the same app - just saying

That's it for now. Let us know if you're able to make Friday as the rollout date 😄

Thanks in advance

Patrick

And has anyone been less than respectful?

What a colossal misstep by Google.  Its a Nest product but it isn't!  It is like they have a bunch of toddlers making this crap.  I bought two of the new Nest Cam and I so want to return them but I so want to have all my cameras work with the same app.  Do I wait or return?

I am in the same position, I bought a camera and now I have to use two apps? It is false advertising in my opinion if the "Nest" camera does not work with the "Nest" app. I have lost all respect.

Purchased two of the Nest Cam (Battery) with the expectation that it would be compatible with the Nest app only to find out that that is not the case. While I would be okay with switching the Google Home app, it currently lacks critical functionality compared to previous generation cameras and the Nest app. The inability to few the Nest Cam (Battery) through a web interface and only being able to view the cameras through an app as well as other functionalities that the Google Home app fails to provide over the previous generations of Nest Cameras with the Nest app makes me feel as though I was misled with my purchase.

I fully agree. It's a nest product by logo only.

Dear Google - branding these new cameras as “Nest” when they don’t function in anyway with Nest software is a misrepresentation.  Suggest you have your legal/product team fix your marketing.

I don’t care which app you want to converge the functionality to, but you can’t sell a broken experience in both apps (no history in G home; no cameras in Nest app).

Super bad idea to have rushed this out before it was ready.

Google has banned me (MplsCustomer) from posting anything at all in this Google Nest Community after attempting to post the following reply to to Brad on this thread on Thursday evening, Sept. 23, 2021. After several attempts to post it, I discovered Google was deleting this and all of my posts, here and elsewhere. The text and a screen shot are below.  None of my posts have been untruthful or impolite.

I have contacted Google Nest Support several times. They say they cannot help, except to suggest I use a different account here, as I am doing here. They say they have no way whatsoever to contact the moderators of this forum, or to investigate or resolve the ban.

Agreed that the Nest is much better and more user-friendlier v. Google Home. I understand why Google is moving everything to Google Home, but I sure hope they incorporate the functionalities, layout, etc. from Nest into the new Google Home. Today's Google Home is bad to be honest and only deserves 1 star compared to Nest's 5 star rating in my opinion.

The history search functionality sucks big time on Google Home, plus it takes multiple clicks to get to where you want to go (a huge no-no).

G'day, just adding my frustration as well.....

- My nest protect smoke alarms don't show up on Google Home app.

- My nest cam battery can't show up on Nest app.

- Google home app not available on PC to see nest cam feed.

Google - shouldn't be that hard to get this all sorted. I believe things are in the pipeline, but can't come soon enough.

Hey folks,

Thank you so much for your feedback! I can definitely make sure it is recorded and moved forward. However, I must say I cannot fix those issues as I do not have such control within Google/Nest. I can definitely understand the frustrations that come with new products, access changes to the Nest and Google Home App, etc. I hope that we can continue to support, and help our community members out, and thank you again so much for all the help you all provide to each other!

Please let me know if you need further assistnace.

Best Reards,

Brad.
