Outdoor camera keeps moving

Duppy2
Community Member

I have 2 2nd gen outdoor cameras. Recently one of them has started moving, it used to show the back garden , car and part of the road, but then moved to show directly at next doors house.

As they are installed just under the soffits (2 storey) they are difficult to reach but I managed to move it using a litter picker stick, it has now moved again for the third time in two weeks. Any reasons or solutions before I sling them in the bin.

Thanks

@Duppy2

Is your camera mounted correctly against the magnet? The magnets on the old and new cameras are pretty strong, and our Google Nest Camera (Battery) has not moved at all in 16 months (nor have any of our other older Google Nest cameras). I don't think I could manage to reposition any of our cameras by using a stick; the magnets hold them too tight.

The magnetic grab seems to be the problem, while trying to move it it comes off the base quite easily. It had been up for a while 15m + without any problems then suddenly moved without touching it

@Duppy2

Without being able to see it, my guess is that either it is not mounted correctly (with the magnet in contact with the camera) or you have a faulty magnetic mount. I've never seen anyone post about a faulty magnet in this forum.

Hello everyone,

@Duppy2 thanks for posting here in the community. I'm sorry to hear about your Nest Camera. Let's see what we can do here. To confirm, how long do you have your Nest Camera? Have you tried checking your recorded videos if someone tries to change its position?

Looking forward to your response.

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer.

Best,
Emerson

Hi, thanks for the reply.  The cameras were already installed when I moved in in August 22, but according to previous owner they had been up at least 18 months before that with no problems.

I have checked the camera feeds an can see no outside interference, but the movement is quite sudden,. They are installed just under the soffits on a two storey house and a ladder would be required to reach it, which is why I have been trying to reposition it using a grab stick.

Hi Brad. Unfortunately the topic seems to have stalled. The situation is still there. I paid someone working on gutters nearby to come and reposition the camera, now after a week it has slipped again. Having done a bit of research it seems that the magnetic mounting is not available separately. I may have to remove the cameras and switch to an alternative, shame really as I also have the doorbell, thermostats and protect.

@Duppy2

I am sorry to hear that your camera mount isn't functioning as it should. You may be able to find a replacement online on eBay or something like that. Please feel free to share your experience and feedback in the app.

Best regards,

Brad
