Hi,
Sometimes it will take 10 minutes for my Nest Cam to notify me of motion in my backyard. This is pretty useless as intrusion detection.
Any ideas?

This issue with delayed notifications is a known issue. Not ETA to provide, but we are working on a fix.

It is possible it could be! Especially depending on the settings you have set up and if it is a private, vs. open network. You could try setting up your cam on a 2.4ghz channel or the 5ghz channel if you can. See if that changes anything.
