Software update.

Hi,

This suggestion might have been given but is there a way family members added to the Google nest cameras be given different levels of access and modifications like the ability to turn off/on the cameras much rather than taking them off the account we still need someone picking up packages and what-not.

Please advise.

Another feature that is really needed. If say you wanted to give a neighbour or family "Read Only" access to alerts and viewing without being allowed to change configuration or settings. Good for when going on holiday say and need someone else to watch over in addition.

Hi folks,

@Hectorips10 thanks for posting and I understand what you mean about sharing access to your home members. There are three levels of access to a Nest home with the Nest app. You can see these options while inviting your home members to the Nest app.

The Owner

You’re the Owner if you created an account in the Nest app and added the first Nest product to it. The Owner can:

  • Control all products in the app.
  • Manage subscriptions.
  • Change billing.
  • View account and activity history.
  • Change settings.
  • Invite people to share access.
  • Full Access

People who have Full Access can:

  • Control all products in the app.
  • Change settings.
  • View account and activity history.
  • Invite people to share access.
  • Home Entry Only

People who have Home Entry Only access:

  • Can’t use the app to control your Nest products.
  • Are assigned a passcode to arm and disarm Google Nest Secure and unlock the Google Nest × Yale Lock. The Owner and anyone with Full Access can change this passcode or schedule access times.
  • Can be assigned a Google Nest Tag to arm and disarm Nest Secure.
  • Can’t view history for the home they have access to. (For example, Home/Away Assist Activity History).

@qapnguyen thanks for sharing your ideas.

Hey there,

I just wanted to follow up to see if you still need our help. Please let us know as we would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

I appreciate the help, Emerson.

Thanks,

Archie

Hi,

No those steps didn't work. I don't know if it is because of the firmware for the generation of the cameras or because of software alone but those options do not show as I described 🤔.  I deleted and resend the invitation and no options were shown.

As I read through "Learn about Family Accounts and how to share access to your Nest home" it mentions that I might need to have the combo/bundle of the Nest Secure or Nest x Yale Lock but if we're talking only cameras I guess it won't show the options or let me know if I got it wrong and that there's and actual way of giving access to cameras but not to turned them off.

Hi folks,

I appreciate your patience here. Thanks for your efforts. Let’s have a better look — a few questions: do your family members already have an account? How many family members are currently added to your account? Also, are you adding them in the Nest app or Home app?

I appreciate the help here, Emerson and Archie.

Looking forward to your response.

Best,

JT

Hi Emerson and Archie,

I tried doing it just now through the Nest app and it says that it's now migrated to the Home app while doing the add family member it just tells (Learn More) me all that I'm sharing which is everything and it doesn't give me the option to just share access to all rather than levels of sharing.

All this through Android.

Thanks.

Hey Hectorips10,

Got it, thanks for giving us a heads up. Adding a family member must be done in the Home app.

Here’s how:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home.
  2. Switch to the home you want to share.
  3. At the top, tap Add Add > Invite home member > Invite person.
    • If you don't find "Invite home member," tap Add person to home.
  4. Enter the name or email address of the person you want to invite to your home > tap Next.
  5. Review what’s shared when you add someone to your home > tap Next.
  6. Review the person’s access to your home > tap Send.
  7. If your Google Family Group isn’t full and the person you’re inviting isn’t already in one, you should get the option to invite them to your Google Family Group.
    • To invite them, tap Add to Family.
    • To skip this step, tap No Thanks.
    • Note: You can have up to 6 members in a Google Family Group.

The person you invite should receive an email with instructions.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

JT

Hey Janthadeus,

Sorry still no give or take options to limit certain access. As I go through the steps to add or invite people it just plain tells me what's going to be shared but it's not like I can pick and choose their capabilities hence the kids are still able to turn off cameras when they shouldn't.

Maybe a a developer needs to take a look into this.
