Solar panel and nest battery doorbell

Jearbee

I am using a solar panel to charge the battery but it does not show that the doorbell is plugged into the solar panel. I have tightened the cables and I have even replaced the solar panel and have donr a factory reset on the doorbell. Still only shows battery in the app. Am I supposed to when setting up the doorbell choose battery or wired when prompted?? There is no mention of which option to pick if you are using a solar panel with the doorbell.

If you’ve connected the camera to a solar panel, the panel doesn’t directly power the camera. Instead, the battery is trickle charged by the panel, and the camera runs off the battery charge, so it will show as on battery.

This is not accurate. It should show an infinity symbol or plugged in when it is hooked to a solar panel. Mine shows neither. Please watch the only video I can find on how to install the solar panel.

It's too bad Google Nest's instructions don't explicitly state what to do if you are using a solar panel. But since your choices are "Battery" and "Wire terminals" during the install process (at least that's what the install video shows), and since you're wiring your doorbell to your solar panel, it seems you should probably select "Wire terminals".

Note that the battery doorbell always runs off of battery power, even when wired (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/11830989). And "At temperatures between -4°F (-20°C) and 32°F (0°C), the doorbell will continue to work, but the battery will drain because it can’t be charged in below freezing temperatures" (https://store.google.com/us/product/wassersteinsolar_panel).

(I'm just another Google Nest customer, with a plugged-in battery camera.)

But what does it say in your app. Does it show battery or an infinity symbol or plugged in? This video shows that it should be an infinity symbol when it is wired to a solar panel. Then I found another thread that shows plugged in at the top of the battery percentage. Mine shows neither.

@Jearbee

Our plugged-in battery camera always shows "Plugged in" with an infinity symbol under Setting | Battery in the Google Home app. When plugged in, the battery camera runs off of household current.

I see that the Wasserstein installation video on your link shows the same thing for the battery doorbell.

When you installed the doorbell, did you get a choice between "Battery" and "Wire terminals"? Did you choose "Wire terminals"? If you did, I don't know why your isn't showing as "Plugged in" with an infinity symbol. You could either try to contact Wasserstein support, or contact Google Nest Support using the link and instructions in this post:

I can try support. I have chosen both ways. I did a factory reset on the doorbell and tried wired terminals after I tried to connect the solar panel as battery option. I also replaced the solar panel to see if that was the issue.

Hopefully, Google Nest Support can tell you how it SHOULD work, and why yours isn't working as shown in the install video, especially since they sell the Wasserstein Solar Panel.
