Watchguard Firewall router blocking Nest camera feeds

jmsbodyshop

I'm using Watchguard firewall routers at my location where cameras are mounted. Anyone behind the watchguard firewall who is trying to view the Nest camera feed just gets a spinning blue circle on the feed.

We were able to track down a pair of IP addresses that represent the feed traffic and create a custom rule to prevent the web filtering, but I'm not not confident the IP addresses won't change in the future. Does anyone know what domain we should be using for the rule? I'd rather use the proper domain so if the IP address changes in the future our rule will still work.

Hi there,

Sorry for my late response. Thank you for all of your patience while waiting for a reply. I just wanted to make sure that your issue is addressed. I am terribly sorry to hear that you have had such a hard time with this! I would love to look into this issue further and help find a solution for you. First off, I have some questions I’d like to ask you.

  • Do you still need help with this issue?

  • What troubleshooting steps have you done thus far?

  • Have you tried to restart your device if you haven’t already?

  • If the restart didn’t work, have you tried to do a Factory Reset? This would be a last resort option, but would clear out issues and the device would essentially be ‘brand new’

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Best Regards,

Brad.

1. Yes

2. Multiple steps were taken, you'll need to be more specific.

3. Yes

4. Yes

The cameras are currently working at the moment, but the custom firewall rule we had to create is numerical IP address based, and I'm concerned that the IP addresses that constitute the rule may change in the future. I'm trying to determine whether or not there's a domain name that Nest is using for their camera feed traffic.

Can you please provide me with a list of domains used in the streaming service of the nest cameras. IE: *.nest.com, *.dropcam.com, etc. We are having to add a packet filter to our Watchguard firewalls to prevent it from scanning the nest streaming traffic through our http proxy. The Watchguard http proxy identifies the streaming traffic from the nest cameras and the website as not conforming to the http(s) RFC standard compliant traffic “ProxyDeny: HTTP Invalid Request-Line format”.

Hey there,

Thanks for the clarification. Before moving forward, could you confirm if you've tried *.nest.com and *.dropcam.com and experienced any issues?

Best Regards,

Brad.
