Wired Nest Doorbell Peeling

I know there have been reports of the Nest Doorbell peeling. Has there been an official response from Google about this? Is there a way to get this warrantied/replaced without too much hassle? This doorbell is way out of weather and should not be peeling like this.

Two of ours are peeling.  Google Nest says they "cannot" replace them after the 1-year warranty.  We bought silicone skins on Amazon to cover the peeling shards.
