changed wifi password, big mess

hello. i unexpectedly changed my wifi password. i was able to remove and reconnect all my google devices except for my doorbell. i get this message during set up: "try moving closer to your nest doorbell (battery). make sure your nest doorbell (battery) is on and connected to the same wifi network as your phone." i have my phone right next to the doorbell (and the doorbell is plugged in, blue light pulsing) but there's no way it can be on the same wifi network because it was setup using the old password. i searched how to factory rest and did so (it restarted, solid white status light) but i still got the same message. then i saw on the nest forum that i needed to remove it from the network BEFORE changing my wifi password in order to reconnect it. that is ridiculous. there has to be a better way to do this. is my doorbell now useless? please advise.

It's unfortunate that a factory reset is required to update Wi-Fi settings.

If you got a solid white light after the restart, then you probably performed a "Restart" rather than a "Factory reset". Both instructions are in the same Help topic; scroll down to the "Factory reset" instructions:

(This link opens both the "Restart" and "Factory reset" instructions.)
