sGoogle battery cameras fire threat

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi all. The specs of the battery cameras state they're unusable over 40 degrees celsius and not to operate or charge them over this temperature as they're a fire hazard. Has anyone experienced these cameras actually catching fire? It constantly reaches temperatures above 40c where i live I'm just wondering how safe these cameras actually are. Or is it a worse case scenario type thing...

Thanks

In my years of helping other users with Nest products, I certainly don't recall a report of a Nest Cam catching fire. Every manufacturer has to state operating and charging conditions that their products have been safety tested at. It doesn't mean the product won't work below or above those temperatures, just that it has not been tested and certified as safe outside that range. If anything untoward were to occur, you'd find it hard to bring any sort of claim or legal recourse as you're operating it outside the manufacturer's specifications.

So over 40 degrees celsius even if they're turned off I would have to unmount them and try find somewhere under 40c to store them or the refrigerator otherwise they could be a fire hazard?

Not necessarily, no. Just because the air temperature is 40 degrees doesn't mean that's how hot your camera is as it may be covered by shade or otherwise out of direct sunlight etc.

So if the cameras are on an exterior wall in the sun over 40°c they're a fire hazard?
