Casting from my mobile device

Benjichuckles72

Why can't I cast from my mobile using my data, but if i connect to another mobile phone via mobile hotspot I can cast?

In short if I'm not connected to my home WiFi I have to use somebody else's data (via hotspot) to cast from my mobile even though I have plenty of data....confused.

Hey folks,

Thanks for reaching out and sorry to hear about that.

Benjichuckles72, it looks like you've created multiple threads with the same issue, so I've duplicated those to this main thread.

Quick questions:  Are you getting any messages when casting using your mobile hotspot? Have you checked if other devices can connect to your mobile hotspot?

Try these steps:

  1. If your phone is broadcasting a hotspot but no device can connect to it, please contact your mobile provider.
  2. Change the hotspot band to either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz.
  3. Check if the security settings for the hotspot is enabled. If not, please set security to WPA2 / PSK for the hotspot.
  4. Disable Bluetooth and try again.
  5. Disable mobile device's settings for network or Wi-Fi restrictions.
  6. Reset the Network Settings on the mobile device.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

Jennifer

I've tried all of your suggestions, more than once. The only way casting works with mobile data is to have two cell phones present. One provides the hotspot but you need the other to actually control or command the chrome cast if that makes any sense. And I don't always have the option of another person (namely their cell phone) there when i'm wanting to cast.

I’m having the same problem. Is there a solution?

Not that I'm aware of.

Hi folks,

Whether you're setting up a Chromecast or casting using a mobile hotspot, you need to have a second device for it to successfully work since the second phone will act as a hotspot.

Also, some mobile devices may turn off Wi-Fi when it acts as a hotspot and won’t allow you to cast content on the same device, so you need a second one.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hi there,

It's me again. I don't want to be a nudge but I'd like to check if you still have other concerns. Feel free to let me know if you do.

Thanks,

Jennifer
