I have been using my chrome cast with my mobile phones wifi hotspot on the 5ghz network since I purchased it. However today suddenly it won’t connect any more. After resetting the hotspot, unplugging the chrome cast, going through setup again in google home from my iPad (it would find the device but then couldn’t find the network). My other devices were still connecting to the 5ghz network fine.
I couldn’t factory reset the thing as the instructions saying where to find the reset option are clearly out of date as I had no option when I followed them.
eventually having tried everything else I changed my phones hotpost from 5ghz to 2.4 and straight away the chrome cast connected.
can anyone advise as to why this is? Are there two separate receivers in the thing and the 5ghz one has crapped out or something?
please note my chrome cast DOES support 5ghz. I have been using it on 5ghz since I purchased it 2-3 months ago. So please don’t reply telling me my chrome cast does not support it. It does. Or it did until this morning.

Is your Chromecast running firmware 275994? This firmware has broken connectivity to 5GHz upper range channels (149-165).
There are two sub-optimal workarounds available until Google fix this defect (use a lower channel 36-48 5GHz network or connect on 2.4GHz).

Hey there,
hiluke is correct, there is a bug on this, and our engineering team is currently working on a fix. What we recommend doing for now if you are experiencing this issue do for now is file feedback with the description being "CCT3 Unable to connect to 5G" with logs enabled.
hiluke is also correct that it has been reported that the Chromecast should function properly if you set your Wi-Fi channel between 36-140, not more than 140. Any channel more than 140 is not supported by the 2nd Gen Chromecast and the Chromecast Ultra with this current firmware issue.

Hey there Liam1,
The last time I talked with the engineering team about the 5GHz network connection issues, they let me know that the Chromecast devices connecting to lower channels (36-140) as opposed the higher channels is an intended feature. There hasn't been any updates since I was told that.
