Although unsupported by Google, you can try to use a phone or tablet as a Wifi hotspot. However, this will then use your mobile data plan, which could be expensive for you depending on the data plan you have with your carrier. Note you will need 2 devices to set this up.

    1. Turn on the Wifi hotspot feature on a phone or tablet. If you're not sure how to do this, refer to the manufacturer's support website.
    2. Connect a second phone or tablet to that Wifi hotspot.
    3. You can then use that second phone or tablet to setup your TV and connect it to the Wifi hotspot on the first phone or tablet.

It depends what features your TV and phone support.

  • Some TV models have both Chromecast built-in and Miracast support, some have one but not the other.
  • Some Android phones support Miracast but some don't. Pixel phones only support casting via Chromecast as an example, they don't support Miracast.
  • Chromecast built-in requires a functioning Wi-Fi network and internet connection, whereas Miracast doesn't as that uses something called Wi-Fi Direct instead.

So you need to work out which ones your phone and TV support. Check the TV's manual or support website as an example. Hope some of that information helps!

I definitely have Chromecast on both my TV and phone but if the internet's down then I don't have Wi-Fi connection to either one do I?

Correct, it wouldn't work in that scenario as Chromecast built-in requires a functioning Wi-Fi and internet connection.

How do I watch movies on my Google Android TV when there is no internet or WiFi...

I do have my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Android Phone
