Chromecast remote won't turn on

Acosse
Community Member

The remote has stopped working.  Took out batteries, held down home button while put in fresh batteries and no LED light at all.  This is the second remote This has happened to.  It seems odd that this would be the case.  Any ideas for a fix?  I would rather not have to buy 2 new remotes.  Open to any/all suggestions.

I'm assuming the batteries work fine in a different device as a test? Sounds like you've already tried similar, but it might be worth trying these steps?

  1. Remove the batteries from the remote.
  2. Using your phone or other remote to navigate, go to Settings > Remotes & Accessories.
  3. Select your remote and choose to Forget it.
  4. Choose Pair remote accessory to start a new pairing.
  5. Hold the home button on the remote down and re-insert batteries while holding the button down.
  6. The remote should be detected on the right side of the screen. Use your alternate remote to select it to pair it.

In most cases, your remote should pair automatically after you insert the batteries. If it doesn’t, follow the steps on the TV screen, or press and hold the Back and Home buttons on the remote for 3 seconds.

If you're still not seeing a light on the remote after trying those steps, let me know and I'll ask a specialist to check other possible options with you.

No, this did not work.

My Chromecast TV remote also stopped working. It's functional with my phone controlling Chromecast but the remote does not power on, function and it is starting to get really hot.

The spot that it is heating up is the top circular button. This just started today. Yesterday it worked perfectly fine. No kids around, no pets. Mature adult using this product.  I have tried to replace new batteries in the unit and nothing changed. New or old. Trying to force to pair it, nothing working.

The Google support page is useless to get this issue escalated.

Searching Google, this is a common issue and has been reported numerous times.

How can I get google to replace the remote? Surely it shouldn't be getting hot/uncomfortable to the touch and I'm concerned that it may cause harm or for something else to happen when it's left unattended.

I can appreciate that will be concerning. I've asked a specialist to review this topic who can advise on next steps.
