Chromecast to youtube no sound

GenericID61

Chromecast plays audio with everything except youtube.  This is recent; however, I don't use Chromecast very often.

This happens while casting from the youtube app as well as casting from Chrome. I've tried the latest Chrome on macOS (Version 98.0.4758.80 (Official Build) (x86_64)) as well as Windows (Version 98.0.4758.82 (Official Build) (64-bit)) I've even tried Chrome in Ubuntu.

I've tried powering the TV off. I did a complete reset of the TV and reinstalled Chromecast on Google Home.

Chromecast is built into a Philips TV 5000 series Part # 43PFL5922/F7

I suspect it is the 2nd generation because I believe it is NOT 4K (even though the TV is 4K); there is no model # anywhere on the TV or the documentation

System firmware version: 2050

Cast firmware version: 1.21.75378

Country code: US

I can't figure out how to upgrade Chromecast's firmware.

FWIW I'm running ethernet. I saw a post suggesting to set it up as wifi so it can upgrade, but it hasn't

(If you suggest updating the Chromecast device - please explain how to do it manually)

I'm using Google Home version 2.47.111

Any and all suggestions / ideas / rants are welcome.

Hi GenericID61,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

Since this thread hasn't had activity in a while, we're going to close it to keep content fresh.

We hope you were able to get the help you need but if you're still having trouble, please try the steps below:

  1. Close all open browser tabs and restart the Chrome browser.
  2. Reboot your casting device (Mac or mobile phone).
  3. Disable Allow all sites to initiate mirroring (Chrome browser).
  4. Reinstall the YouTube app.
  5. Use a different casting device to isolate the issue (Computer or mobile phone).

If the issue persists, feel free to submit another post and provide as many details as possible so that others can lend a hand.

Hope this helps!

Thanks,

Jennifer
