@kingsdaughter44 , yes you have a 2-stage Heating and 2-Stage cooling. You will need a Nest Learning Thermostat. The basic Nest Thermostat cannot handle 2-stage of heat and 2-stages of cooling.

@AngelRQJ , when using the Google Nest Compatibility Checker, you should only input the wires that are currently attached to your Honeywell thermostat. The fact that the blue conductor wire is there and not connected it should be ignored for now.

Hi- I’m going to give you the same reply I gave to @Will3478 a few min ago. I edited it to accommodate your photo.
PS: Honeywell Thermostats are pretty straightforward conversions to Nest. Even older ones.

Hi- @CoolingWizard posted this link in response to another question. It is a thermostat compatibility checker. It looks like a great tool. He seems to be a great, terrific resource: https://store.google.com/intl/us/widget/compatibility/thermostat/

Your system is a Heat Pump system with a Forced Air electric furnace with auxiliary heat strips.
Your wires in use are:
R, Red Wire, This is 24VAC Power Input,
B, Blue Wire, This is 24VAC power Common.
W, Black Wire, This is for AUXillary Heat
Y1, Yellow Wire, This is the Compressor Relay
O, Orange Wire, This if the heat pump changeover valve relay
G, Green Wire, This is the indoor blower fan relay.
Your system is compatible with all Nest Thermostats
1.Nest Thermostat
2. Nest Learning Thermostat
3. Nest E Learning Thermostat.

The Nest Thermostat compatibility help page directs us here to upload a photo via chat. I'm assuming this is the chat. I have a Vive Thermostat TP-S-855C, with a 16 seer Rheem Electric AC/Gas Furnace with a 2 stage compressor. I got a Nest Thermostat for free from the electric company. Is it compatible? I am trying to upload the image of my current wiring setup, but it will not let me. Mine has wires connected to: C, W/E, W2, RH, G, Y, Y2 and a large, red jumper going from RH to RC. Thank you.

@kingsdaughter44 , your free Nest thermostat form the electric company is not capable of supporting 2-stages of heat and cooling. You will need a Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Generation to support your system.

I tried installing Google Nest Thermostat, however during install process I was told it was incompatible. Please tell me which thermostat to use, and if I need to not install certain wires. I have the following wires with my heat pump Y2, X2, F, W1, Y, G, R, and B.

@TX2023 , your current thermostat is controlling a Heat Pump with 2 Stages along with Auxiliary Heat and Emergency Heat. You will need a Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Generation to support your system. The black wire on the F terminal is usually a Heat Anticipator wire and will not be needed. You need to repurpose the Black wire as your Emergency Heat. This will require you to open the indoor air handler and find the thermostat cable and locate the Black wire, then connect it to the same location the White wire is terminated on.

I have a gas forced air furnace and A/C with a Honeywell thermostat. Is the blue wire common on the Nest? Does the R wire go to Rc or Rh on Nest?
09-30-2023 10:26 PM
@PAMTB , The blue wire on your old thermostat is the Common and goes to C on the nest. The red wire goes to R or Rc on the nest Thermostat. The yellow wire goes to Y1. The white wire goes to W1.
I hope this helps.

Trying to find out if my setup is compatible with Google Nest Thermostat. I have only heating, no A/C.
I don’t see an option to upload a photo… so I’ll just mention the wire colors I have
white, red, blue, green, orange, black & brown
I hope that’s enough information

@B15 , which color wire is attached to which thermostat terminal by letter.

I am trying to see if my system is compatible with nest thermostat. We have heating only with W and R wires connected.
10-24-2023 12:30 PM
there is a possibility that your system is compatible. You have only a heating system and as long as that heating system uses a 24 Volt Alternating Current powered control system, you can use a Nest Thermostat. Can you access your Heating system and take a few picture of the furnace system making sure that you can see where the thermostat cable connects to the furnace in a picture?

I'm not able to post photos on this thread for some reason but I have attached a google drive link HERE with all the photos I have of our system.
Thanks

@ar14 ,
form the pictures you have posted, I do not see the thermostat cable. Also, you need to look for a model number for your boiler. See if you can determine where the thermostat cable is glint to.

@ar14 , This boiler uses a 24VAC control system. There is an orange wire and and a black wire attached to TV and T as seen in your pictures. It travels up the conduit. I cannot see where it is going however it should interconnect with your thermostat cable somewhere.

@CoolingWizard Here are the pics of my thermostats. They are very old and they came with the house that we just purchased. I don't know the manufacturers for the thermostats or the models. How can I find out information regarding my heating system? We just moved in.

you appear to have two separate systems that are 100% conventional. That is to say you have a red on R, yellow wire on Y, a green wire on G, and a white wire on W.
you can use any nest thermostat model that you would desire to use. If you want to really advanced features you would need to make sure you use a Nest Learning Thermostat or you can save money and just use the basic Nest Thermostat.

Hello,
I’m trying to install a new Nest Thermostat. I can’t figure out how to attached an image on here so I’ll list the wires below.
Honeywell Thermostat pre-install:
When I use the compatibility checker and ignore the blue wire Google says it’s probably compatible.
When I do the compatibility checker and list the blue wire as “Other” Google said to go to their “Support Page” and choose Chat or Phone, instead the site sent me here.
Can I connect it the way it currently is and just leave the taped wire alone?
Thanks in advance!

@AngelRQJ , when using the Google Nest Compatibility Checker, you should only input the wires that are currently attached to your Honeywell thermostat. The fact that the blue conductor wire is there and not connected it should be ignored for now.

Hi, I have an old Honeywell Thermostat. I have propane gas powered furnace and electric A/C. Is it compatible with nest thermostat? If yes, which one ?
Wires attached:
B
G
Y
W
R
12-07-2023 08:57 PM
@murrayforman , you can use any of the Nest Thermostats available. The B wire is your Power Common.

Thanks.
Attaching picture. Is it true the smart thermostat can damage heating systems if they don’t have C wire. Mine doesn’t have C wire. See picture
12-07-2023 09:51 PM
@murrayforman , the blue wire attached to the B terminal is actually your power Common. And no, Smart Thermostats cannot damage your system. Consider this, the thermostat is simply evaluating the current temperature set point, and if in heating mode and the room temperature drops below the set point, it calls for heating by internally connecting. R to W. The W terminal is connected to the heating system and when the power arrives at furnace, the heating cycle starts.

Hello,
I did exactly this and did the setup. It started the AC instead of the Heat. What could be wrong there ?
12-08-2023 05:17 PM
You should have a yellow wire in Y/Y1, a red wire in R/Rc, a white wire in W/W1, a green wire in G, and a blue wire in C. You system is a conventional system, Heat is Gas, Forced Air. You should check your system set up to make sure. You can go to your Nest display and enter SETTINGS, then rotate until you see EQUIPMENT, select, now check the display, and if it shows Y wire as Cooling, the W wire as heating. You should ok. If the Y wire shows Heating/Cooling, it still thinks you have a heat pump. If you select CONTINUE you can change the system configuration. We might need to change the configuration from heat pump to Gas Heat and Forced Air.

I'm thinking about upgrading our 2 old Honeywell thermostats for Nest Thermostats. Not sure if the Nests are compatible with our wiring/system. Gas fueled furnace, no AC. Not able to upload a photo of the existing thermostat, even though I registered. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
12-31-2023 11:30 AM
@CWhite326 , your has furnace can be compatible as long as it uses a 24VAC power for the controller. If your current thermostat has a R/Rc wire and a W/W1 wire, you will be ok.
