Like many others, I was awoken this morning (4am) to a chirping Nest Protect complaining about a low battery. We’d received no prior app alerts about low batteries and on inspection I discovered one of the batteries was scalding to touch and there was a burning smell front the Protect device.
I have seen other people post about this exact issue in this forum and reddit and apparently I should not continue to use this Protect.
I have 11 Nest Protect devices at two different properties, and am very concerned about what would have happened if I wasn’t there to take the Protect down and remove the batteries immediately.
Google is there someone I should contact?

I think our best bet as a customer base is to make these problems known outside Google, so a trend can be established. Could you please take a moment to report this issue to the Consumer Product Safety Commission at: https://www.saferproducts.gov/IncidentReporting
