Can’t setup Nest Protect QR code and Entry code scratched off unreadable

I can no longer read the QR code or manual entry code on the back as they have scratched off when installing in the mounting plate, the serial number is still readable, is there anyway to set it up.    Why do they put the codes where they will be scratched off
