Carbon monoxide sensor failure message

laffer1
Community Member

I had a nest protect second gen that gave an error message about the co2 sensor.  The unit eventually went back to green in the app although it sent me a message to replace it.

It seems like the app should not mark the unit as green if there's an issue with the sensor.  That seems like a bug.

I decided to replace it since it was from 2017.   I don't have a problem that the sensor failed, but the app hiding it from me is a problem.

Hi laffer1,

Thanks for posting here in the Community forum, and I'm sorry to hear about the situation. Let me take a look at this for you.

Have you performed a Safety Checkup on your Nest Protect? If not, follow the steps in this guide on how to do so, and then let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe

I've also just had the Sensor warning (after 5 years of use). The Guide link doesn't seem to be working for me though, can you check and repost please.

Hi there,

Thanks for getting back to us. Here's the guide for you.

Let us know if that works.

I have had the same issue for about a month.  I tried using some compressed air to blow out dust, but seems to be triggering a failure msg still every day at the same time.

I will attempt a factory reset and follow the guide above and report back whether that works.

I’ve successfully completed a factory reset and ran a self check on the Protect…said it was good.

But please give me a day (or 2 or 3) to see if I continue to get msgs on my app about the carbon monoxide sensor failure.   I’ll check back…got a reminder set on my calendar.
