(I don't know how to tell if the protect items I have are Gen 1 or 2)
I changed my wifi. I have four protect alarms and was able to connect them without a problem. The other two are too high for me to get to. I do, however, have a copy of the bar code and information from the back of the alarm. Everything I read says I have to put the alarm next to the wifi. Is there a work around that?

Hello @Lane84,
Thanks for reaching out. Are you referring to Nest Protect - Smoke Alarm? If so, you can follow these steps to update the Wi-Fi information on your Nest Protect.
Hope that helps! 🙂

Hi,
I have the same problem, a new wifi network. I can scan all my smoke detectors, however I can't figure out how to connect to the new wifi. The directions in the link above (and provided in a lot of threads) states go to settings then select your protect. I don't have any option even close to that on my Nest app. When I try to re-add the smoke alarm by scanning the barcode, I get an error saying I'm not connected to wifi. Any suggestions??

I had been following those directions and it still didn't work. Come to find out, it's connecting with the help of another existing Protect alarm. That alarm ended up having a problem, so once I work with the other working alarm, it all went together as advertised! Fixed their 'assisting' alarm as well.
