Future for Nest Protect (Smoke and CO sensor)

EI_Joe

Does Google plan to continue support for Google Protect smoke and CO sensors? I may be coming up on the date to replace some of the sensors in my house and I want to know the plan for the next 5-7years.
The ADT partnership and discontinuation of support for legacy Nest products (Dropcam, Secure) and the fact that the new Google Nest Cam does no appear in the legacy Nest app gives me reason to believe the legacy app and service is being phased out. Will everything be collected under the Google Home app? If so, will Nest Protect be added soon?

According to The Verge, the Nest Protect should be migrated from the Nest app to the Google Home app when the redesigned experience (which is currently in public preview) rolls out to the public. Let's hope that Google makes good on their promise and rolls out the update soon!

Hi EI_Joe,

Thanks for the post — we hear you. No announcements to share about that right now, but we're always looking for ways to improve and bring more features to our Nest devices, and we appreciate your insight into this matter. So, please let our product team know about it by sending feedback. Currently, the best option is to use your Nest Protects with the help of the Nest app, so you can still control them.

In the meantime, I'll go ahead and lock this thread within 24 hours. If you run into any more questions in the future, please feel free to create a new thread.

I appreciate your help, @MetalGlacier.

Best,

Zoe
