How to physically remove/disable smoke detector?

ByteSlinger

Does anyone know how to physically remove or disable the smoke detector component in the Nest, whilst keeping the rest of it fully functional?
I still want the heat sensor and carbon monoxide detector, but just want to remove the ability to detect smoke.

As Google seems to not be bothered about making it suitable for UK regulations, I'm looking at ways I can do it myself.

There's no way to do that unfortunately. Are you referring to the changes in Scotland?

I understand the 2nd gen has a whole array of sensors, including heat sensors, however, is it possible to turn sensing of some things off?

I've bought a load to fit into my house but have just been told that for the one in the kitchen, it needs to have a heat sensor but NOT smoke sensor so it's not going off all the time (I've been told this is a building standards requirement).

Is it possible to, via the app, turn off the smoke detector section of one of my Nest Protects, so in terms of fire, it just relies on it's heat detector?

If it makes a difference, this is regarding the Wired units in the UK.

I'm quickly seeing that this may be an issue Google hasn't rectified in over 2 years of complaints. Surely just a setting in the app to turn off smoke detection would be all that is required for the Gen 2 as they have heat detectors?

If that's the case, does anyone want to buy 11 f***ing brand new (but opened and activated) smoke alarms?

Dude, You do know that these alarms aren't featured as heat detectors right?
They do smoke and C02 only. They may have some sort of heat sensor but they aren't sold as such.
