I broke the backplate to my new 2nd gen wired Nest Protect device while installing it

The backplate broke while installing my new 2nd gen wired Nest protect smoke/CO alarm this afternoon. When I tightened the screws into the backplate while attaching it to the box, it snapped right through the plastic in the backplate.

Did the blackplate crack or did the screws just go through the plastic? would you be able to use 2 small washers between the plastic? Basically sandwich the plastic part with the 2 washers, put the screw through and attach to the electrical box.

Best regards,

Hello Jake,

No, two of the backplates broke when I tried to install, so I am not able to use my Nest Protect devices.

Hi Jake-

I just bought new battery-powered Nest Protects to replace my wired Protects (which expired after 10 years).  The backplates are different (as many in the community have pointed out) and there doesn't seem to be a way to install them without MacGyver by your side to jerryrig it.  Are you aware of an easy solution?  Thanks.
