I need to replace my gen 1 nest protect with gen 2. Will the old mount work with the new one?

I've checked and the mount is square on the current one.

Hi Michele, 

The Nest protect Gen 2 comes with a round mounting plate. The mounting plate from the 1st generation is not compatible with the 2nd generation detector so you would need to swap out the mounting plates.

Boy, I'll say. The holes in my ceiling for the Nest Protect 1 are too large for the mounting plate of Nest 2. Going to have to rig something to fit.
