Install Nest Protect in 2nd Home

PhilHT
Community Member

I am trying to install a Nest Protect in my Camp, but the setup program in the Nest app insists on getting information from my existing Nest units in my home, which is 100 miles away. How do I add a second location so I can install the Nest Protect?

Here's a Google Nest help page on creating another "home" in the Nest app:

Hello PhilHT,

Thanks, but no, I have installed it myself and it seems to be working properly. I have some concerns about how well my internet connection via Verizon cell service will work (connection speed varies wildly through the day and through the seasons), but the Nest App tells me that I am connected from 100 miles away and there no problems (but this is off-season for my vacation home area; it gets much worse during the summer).

I have had issues with installing my Nest Learning Thermostat. I originally ordered the plain Nest Thermostat, and hired your Tech installers to install it; but the tech said that could not be installed, and I need the Learning thermostat (which I had asked to have along as a possible solution), but he did not have one. He said I could do it myself, so I ordered one, got it, and tried installing it myself.  No dice: using the Nest app to install ended up at a dead end (contact support), and to disconnect the old thermostat I would have to cut two wires making it problematic to get the old thermostat working again if I couldn’t get the new one working. So, I have again asked for the on-site tech to install it. I hope he can get it to work.
