Installation of Nest protect when don't have another Protect

I have a new nest protect to add to my account. It's for my office that is on another WiFi. It won't install with out having another nest protect to connect to. How do I go around this?

I'm assuming you already have another Nest Protect at your home, with a different Wi-Fi network to your office. Each "home" in the app can only have one Wi-Fi network, so the Nest Protect you're trying to setup at your office is trying to get the Wi-Fi information from the Nest Protect in your home, which it can't as it's not connected to the Wi-Fi at your office.

To solve this, you'll need to create a new "home" in the app for your office. Then when you're setting up the device, it will ask you to select your office Wi-Fi network, and not try to get the Wi-Fi information from your other Nest Protect.

  1. At the top left corner of the app home screen, tap Menu (down arrow).
  2. Next, at the top right corner, tap Add +.
  3. Tap Continue.
  4. Give your home a name > tap Next.
  5. Enter your new home's address > tap Next when you're finished.
  6. Choose if you want to use your phone’s location to help with Home/Away Assist for your new home.
  7.  If you have a non-migrated account, you’ll be asked if you want to invite other people to share access to your new home. If you don’t, you can always invite them later.
