Hi Jjk1,

Thanks for posting here in the community. To confirm, do you have the battery or wired type of Nest Protect?

Give these steps a try to force update your Nest Protects:

  1. Press the button once and let go. It will speak, “Ready, in the [room name]. Press to test.”
  2. Press and hold the button until “Checking the network” is spoken (if unpaired, it will not say this). Either way, press for about five seconds. Let go of the button after you hear “Checking the network”. The Force Update will start.

a. The LED will begin to glow blue - this can take up to 20 minutes, especially for a software update.
b. If there is no update, the LED will glow blue for a couple minutes.

c. After the Protect’s LED stops glowing blue, it will briefly glow green, then turn off.

Note: The LED ring may glow yellow instead of green if there’s an error when trying to check for an update or if the Protect can't communicate over Wi-Fi. If the Force Update is unsuccessful, the Protect may speak, “Please try again later.” This means the Protect couldn’t connect and might indicate that there's something wrong with the Wi-Fi network.

Keep us posted.

Thanks,

Emerson

Hello Jjk1,

How's it going with your Nest Protect? Were you able to do the steps above? I'd be glad to hear from you — I'd like to make sure everything is working.

Hey Jjk1,

Just one quick final check in here since activity has slowed down. We'll be locking the thread in the next 24 hours, but if you still need help, I would be happy to keep it open. If there's more we can do, just let me know.

Best,
Emerson
