Neat replacement date - from installation or manufacture

Hi all,

Thinking of pre-buying a couple Nest smoke alarms for my next home (moving next year).

I read somewhere that the 10 year life span actually starts ticking away from the date it’s made, with people saying it’s important to check the replacement date when you purchase to ensure the store hasn’t had them for years!

Wondering if anyone knows if the 10 year replacement date is from the date of manufacture (which I’ve heard is the case), or from the date of installation?

Hi, claire1199876.

Sorry for the late reply and for the confusion regarding the replacement dates, but I wanted to hop in here real quick to see if you still needed any help getting this sorted out or if you had already found your answer. If you still need some help, let me know and I'll be happy to help you troubleshoot things here.

Thanks.
