Hello BW5000,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry.

Accessing your Nest Protect's .plist file will help you get its serial number, software version, MAC address (useful for those who use MAC filtering for added security on their home Wi-Fi networks), and pairing key.

To do this, please follow the steps below:

  1. Connect the Nest Protect to a USB port on a computer.
  2. With the Nest Protect' on the wire, press and hold the Nest button until the LED ring shuts down.
  3. Open Finder (Mac) or File Explorer (Windows); there should be a removable drive named Nest in the drive list on the left side.
  4. Double-click the drive.
  5. In the file list on the left, there should be a file named Technical Info.plist.
  6. Right-click Technical Info.plist and choose Open With from the context menu. Use TextEdit (Mac) or Notepad (Windows) to open the file.

Let me know if that helps.

Regards,

Mark
