Nest Protect not visible to family member in Google Home App

We replaced our old Nest thermostat for the latest Nest learning model. Upon doing so and switching to the Google Home app (required with the new thermostat), I can see both our new Thermostat as well as our Nest Protect in our Google Home. However, my wife is NOT able to see our Nest Protect in our home in the Google Home app. She only sees the new Nest Thermostat there. In the Nest app, we both see the Nest Protect in our home. The old Nest thermostat was also visible to us both in the Nest app, prior to removing the thermostat.

We are both logged in to the Nest and Google Home apps with our Google accounts and are members of the same home in both apps. I have removed and re-added the Nest Protect in the Nest app, but nothing works. My wife is unable to see the Nest Protect in Google Home. (I’ve also logged us both out of each of the apps, rebooted our devices, and added both apps back / logged in.)

Any suggestions??

Are you both on public preview within the Google Home app?

Hi Chucky44, how can I tell?

Neither of us was using the Google Home app prior to the install of the new Nest thermostat. All we did was download the app and log in…

Appreciate your help!

Go into Settings->Public Preview, you can see if you are part of it or not.

If it says Leave Public preview in the bottom then you are already a part of it.

Hi Chucky44, sorry for the delay. For both my wife and I, in the Google Home App, we have the option to "Join Public Preview", so it doesn't look like either of us is a part of it... I presume that is unrelated as to why I see the Nest Protect in Google Home, and my wife does not...

I thought that the Nest Protects appearing in the Google Home app was only for people on public preview. You can try to join and see if they show up on your wife's phone. Just as a test.

Good suggestion, unfortunately the Protect still didn’t appear in Google Home for her when I switched her over to Public Preview

@desbiss

It can take a while for the Protect to show in Google Home.

Thanks for your help @Patrick_Caezza

It appeared immediately in Google Home upon set up for me… How long would you anticipate it will take to appear for my wife? It’s been three or four days at this point…

@desbiss

I'm not sure, as it took a long time for mine to finally show in Google Home.

Yeah its hard to say, when they first announced that it was on the public preview it took me like a couple months before it finally showed up in my google home.

Thanks @Patrick_Caezza  and @Chucky44. I appreciate your help!

Being new to the Google Home app I’m surprised the Protect isn’t better integrated, or that there are no ways to force it to Sync to my wife’s phone.

I believe I had read the Google Home app is meant to replace the Nest app. I certainly hope Google fixes this sync issue with the Protect before they phase out the Nest app.

Having to use two apps is less user friendly. I guess I expected more from Google. 🫤
