Nest Protect "Low Battery Problems"

Hi @Google Nest Support,

since I can't reach you properly via chat, contact form or similar, I hope someone of you is reading this. Because Nest support is otherwise really, really bad.

We have been having problems with our 6 Nest Protect for several years now. The batteries supplied with them were said to last “10 years”. This is absolute nonsense and simply not true.

The batteries were empty after 2-3 years.

After that, I always used the batteries recommended by you, unfortunately only with the effect that after just 2-3 months they draw attention to themselves again because a message appears via the app that the batteries are empty. So we always had to replace them at great expense, but that cannot and should not be the case. Sorry, not in this price range.

I recently bought a measuring device to test the completeness of the charge of the supposedly empty batteries. To my annoyance....

“All batteries” that the Nest Protect reported as ‘empty’ have 100% power and are still absolutely full.

On 2 devices the batteries last a little longer, all others are empty on average after 3-4 months according to the app's message, which also indicates that the battery is empty.

So - now I finally want to know what's really wrong here.

Please save the comments. I have already done a factory reset twice and also bought new batteries several times. Who will pay for this?

Thanks for your help
Toby

Hi @SoniconGER

I will escalate your post over to our Community Specialists from Nest.

Using the recommended Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA (L91) like you have shouldn't be giving you that error. I've changed my batteries maybe once in all the years I've had my two protects (just for reference).

I'd be annoyed as well so hopefully the specialists can figure this out.

Do you have the hardwired or full battery Protects?

Jill
