Nest thermostat working fine but Nest Protects don't want to connect to Wi-Fi

Hi...I had to redo my Wi-fi recently, new network and password. The Nest thermostat reconnected with the new network name and password but the Nest Protects (Master bedroom, Dining room/kitchen and office) won't connect. I have looked at several questions on this forum, and even followed the instructions on the app and can't seem to get it to connect. The blue light just spins then it turns yellow and tells me that I'll have to try again later. Help! I'm not the most tech savvy person, so basic instructions to fix this would be much appreciated. Thanks so much! I've had a Nest for years in 3 different homes and I've never had an issue like this. Thanks for the help!

Hi StacielynnM,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. When setting up the Nest Protect to a new Wi-Fi network, it will require you to reset them to the factory default. However, after the reset, all of your configurations will be deleted as well.

To reset:

You need physical access to your Nest Protect to restore it to its factory default settings. You cannot erase Nest Protect’s settings with the app.

  1. Press and hold your Nest Protect’s button. It will chime and glow blue. Continue holding the button down.
  2. Release the button when your Nest Protect starts to say its version number.
  3. Your Nest Protect will start a verbal countdown and tell you it’s erasing all your settings.
  • To cancel the factory reset, press Nest Protect’s button again during the countdown.
  1. After a few seconds your Nest Protect will reset to its factory default settings. You can then go through setup with the app and add it to an account again.

Give these steps a try:

  • When setting up multiple Nest Protects they should be placed on a table near your Wifi router.
  • Perform a reset to factory default.
  • While pairing they should have a blue light pulsing, indicating that they are ready to be set up. If not, just press it one time.
  • The first Nest Protect that you're going to set up will connect to your Nest Thermostat. Make sure that the Nest Thermostat is awake (if not, press it one time).
  • The second Nest Protect will connect to the first Nest Protect you installed. This goes to the remaining Nest Protects.

Looking forward to your response.

Best,

Emerson
